The excitement is bouncing off the walls. Pete Olson had just arrived at his watch party at Berryhill Restaurant in Sugarland. There were cheers and chants - people yelling..Pete, Pete, Pete. In the early returns, Olson is beating former short term Congresswoman Shelly Sekula Gibbs by about 3 to 1.

If those numbers hold, the former naval officer and aid to 2 Texas Senators would be one step closer in his quest to hold a political office. One supporter told me at the watch party...with that much of a lead in early voting it is tough for the other candidate to come back. The voting precinct numbers are starting to roll in. They'll ultimately decide the winner. This watch party is filled with supporters, those who helped the campaign, even one of the original 10 candidates who ran for the Republican nomination for Congressional District 22. Brian Klock said once he lost the race for the nomination, he threw his support behind Pete. The people here believe in him. Pete said to his supporters this isn't just his campaign, it's their campaign too. He also told them if the numbers keep going in the direction their going (meaning he wins the nomination) they're all have to go home and get some rest..and then get ready for their next challenge - beating Democratic incumbent Nick Lampson.
