INSIDE CITY HALL

Crime is no laughing matter, but fighting crime can be.

In a discussion about whether to buy a fleet of new helicopters for the Houston Police Department, conversation turned to the age of one of the choppers that's currently used for training.

The poor thing was built in 1975 and looks like something out of "M.A.S.H." On a tour of the helicopter hangar last week, the top training officer for HPD told me that it's been on its last legs for a decade now.

Before voting for the money to replace it, Council Member Mike Sullivan remar...

The excitement is bouncing off the walls. Pete Olson had just arrived at his watch party at Berryhill Restaurant in Sugarland. There were cheers and chants - people yelling..Pete, Pete, Pete. In the early returns, Olson is beating former short term Congresswoman Shelly Sekula Gibbs by about 3 to 1.

The polls have been closed for over an hour now and Shelly Sekula Gibbs is doubtless taking a much needed breather. She made all 12 scheduled campaign appearances today at area polling places. At Lykos Campaign Headquarters

Pat Lykos and supporters have gathered at a Greek restauraunt in Montrose to watch results come in. Unlike most candidates, who wait until some results are posted to show up at watch parties -- Lykos was here before even any reporters. Typically we're the first ones to arrive, to stake out tables and good camera positions. I arrived just after 7pm -- and Lykos and City Council member Anne Clutterbuck were seated at a candle-lit table, below a giant plasma TV displaying blank election returns.

It only took a few minutes for...

Confusion in the CD-22 debate

gibbsolson.jpgShelley Sekula Gibbs and Pete Olson have found very little to agree, especially when it comes to who is best to be the Republican nominee for the 22nd Congressional District. The two runoff candidates for the nomination squared off again in a debate, this time in Clear Lake.
Again, Sekula Gibbs painted Olson as an out of towner who has spent his career in ...
