Sister Act: the making of a commercial

Posted at 8:45 p.m. by Wendell Edwards at the Emmett Watch party in the Galleria area.

Those were really the daughters of Ed Emmett in one of his campaign commercials.

I caught up with the two sisters at the watch party for their father at the Westin Hotel on Alabama in the Galleria.

Adrienne Gordon and her sister Patricia Emmett said they shot the commericial in Dallas last month.

"We got a phone call saying coome to Dallas to shoot a commercial for your dad," Adrienne said. "So we went."

If you haven't seen the commericial, it goes something like this: The sisters come downtstairs, dressed and ready for a new day. Then they join their father in the kitchen and proceed to tell him the things he should do when he's elected (rather than just appointed) Harris County Judge.

Been there done that, he answers them.

"That's really not the way we talk to him ever at all," said Patrica, who's nine years younger than her sister. "But it was definitely a good experience."

The sisters tell me the shoot took 6 hours, the house they used in Dallas was rented, but the muffins Judge Emmett used on the set were indeed real.

"It was funny," Adrienne said. "He kept having to shuffle those muffins. He hands got all sticky."

I didn't recognize Patricia from the commerical. Maybe because tonight. She didn't have her glasses. She did, however, wear them in the commerical. Why?

"Because we left Houston at 5 a.m.," she said on the day of the shoot. "And I just didn't feel like putting my contacts in. Plus, I really prefer my glasses."

As for the shoot itself, the sisters say their dad was a pro.
Them --- not so much.

"We kept cracking up and laughing and messing up our lines," Adrienne said. "But, you could tell he's done this before."

They say they would do it again.
Just next time, they should really get a trip out of it.

"I'm still waiting for someone to take us to Hawaii," Adrienne said referring to the commercial again.

But as their dad would say, "nice try."
