Mutiny on the Caucus

Folks waiting to participate in the Democratic primary at the Nimitz High School polling location had to call out sheriff's deputies early Wednesday morning, when a frustrated election/precinct judge apparently couldn't handle the huge crowds and just walked off the job.
Nimitz was the polling location for 8 Democratic voting precincts.

Hundreds of people waited until after midnight to vote and then didn't get a chance to participate in the caucus until after 1:30 a.m.
When the election official walked off, the precinct chairs stepped in, but not before Harris County Sheriff's deputies arrived to calm folks down. The caucus wasn't completed until 2:20 a.m.
But a lot of people are likely very angry after the episode. More than two dozen people just simply walked away and never got a chance to participate.
Nimitz was the polling location for Pct. 101, 106, 342, 449, 657, 729, 794 and 817.

my father and i were there and no one knew what the hell they were doing. we got up and left cause of frustration and it was so disorganized. i will never participate in a caucus ever again. it was hell waiting 5 hrs to vote and then almost another 3 to vote in the caucus. alot of people were tired and fed up and just left. get ur stuff together. there were only 3 books and 10 booths with over 1,000 people there to vote. u do the math and u stand around to vote and then have to wait til the last vote is in and still have to wait for the caucus when no one knows whats going on or what the hell they were doing. i am surprised that the election judge didnt walk out sooner or that fights didnt start while we were there.

Six precints at one location is just to much. I think these large backups are used to discourage certain voter from partaking in the process. The registers office knew what the turnout would be like and did not take actions to keep this from happenning. are the Rep. still playing with smoke and mirrows

No comment, but a question. Why is the Republican Party so stuck up with it's self. All year long all I hear is the good of the party. Why is the good of the party more important than the good of the people, or the good of the nation, both of witch are in bad shape. Maybe that's why we are were where we are, the goog of the party

The parties decide which precincts will vote together and where they will vote. They also decide how many people will be ther to work. In their defense, not enough people volunteer to work the primary elections and historically not many turn out to vote. Normally that would have been enough people and equipment.

I was so disappointed in Texas last night. The last thing I expected in 2008 was the old trick of moving the polling sites and not having enough voting machines. The news reports the weeks of early voting confirmed turnouts were at all time highs. The officials claimed they did not anticipate the crowds. This type of not knowing costs Obama more because precincts that were primarily black is where we were herded like cattle. It was embarrassing and degrading. It believe it cost Obama the votes to take him into the election as the confirmed top runner. Of course this may have been the objective. People tired of waiting went home to prepare for morning school and work. People had just finished voting in the primaries at 10:30 or so but she had already been declared the winner. Most of the precincts effected had not even started the caucus voting. I understand that 90% of one precinct caucus votes did not even count. On top of all that voting stations were changed and it seemed majority black precincts were pushed together with as little as 8 machines with as many as 8 precincts voting. I do not see how anyone can call this a victory for Hillary. What I call it was some old fashioned words dirty low down cheating. How could Precinct 202 voters not write down the name when there was someone right there to make sure you filled out the sheet? Texas needs to stop its notoriety and history of this type of

My Aunt, Husband, add I arrived at Nimitz@6:30 pm yesterday with the anticipation to vote in Caucas. We waited patiently until 1:45 am in the morning and be discourage by the precent judge walking off and not be clear on how the caucas forms should be completed. It's a shame that the democratic party chariman was not prepared for the turnout he stated"they did the best they could". Well I beg to differ with his EXCUSE. They did not have it organize, and they counted us out, but we as Black americans were trying to change the mind set of ourselfs as well as the mind set of what other people think we might do.

I was in line there from 6 to 10:30! Then we waited for caucus with babies, elderly, and children who had Taks testing the next morning. The auditorium was packed. People were hungry, thirsty, and tired. Horrible!

I stood in line from 6:30P to 9:30P on the northeast side of town in a predominately white area. The voting ended at 9:00P and the sign in for the caucus started about 9:30P. I salute everyone that stood for the cause. The caucus was unorganized and people were very frustrated, but you have to realize that when history is being made it will not be easy. Just stand together and we can make change happen. We have to be like those who came before us and Believe that change is going to come and vote for Obama!

I understand the frustrations, but we must look at the bigger picture. Mr. Obama needed your vote, so what if you were there late, most of us were. The precinct judge needs to be accountable for their actions. Some would have never made it during the civil rights movement. My people get over yourselves and join in on this movement, so what if they make things difficult. My parents paid so that they could vote. Read your history, then perhaps you can stop whining so much.

This was too chaotic, lines too long, and not enough workers to get the voters thru the process....
I left after standing in line for 2.5 hours, seeing that it was at least another 2 hours before I could VOTE....THANK GOODNESS THAT HILLARY WON TEXAS

This type of not knowing costs Obama the votes to take him into the election as the confirmed top runner. People tired of waiting went home to prepare for morning school and work. Voters at Cummings Elementary had not even finished voting in the primaries at 10:15 or so but she (Clinton) had already been declared the winner by 11:00. We were 2000 at least likely 3000 at Cummings at one point, Police screamed at us after we had been lined up. We are all law abiding citizens, doing what the law gives us the right to do. I understand that 90% of one precinct votes did not even count (202). On top of all that voting stations were changed on the day of polls, and it seemed majority black precincts were pushed together with as little as 8 machines with as many as 8 precincts voting. It was said voters did not put down their candidate. How could they voters not write down the name when there was someone right there to make sure you filled out the sheet? Texas needs to stop its notoriety and history of this. 8 machines for approximately 3000 people. Houston should be ashamed that even still Obama won in every major city in TX. Houston included with 52% and 38% for Clinton. How much more and how many more votes might there have been? This is history in the making and with open eyes and mouth, I say let's do the right thing.

I was there too.I am glad that I did early voting, because there were just over 1,000 people still waiting to cast their vote at 7 pm. Then the next morning I found out that three of the ten ballot machines were not working. The last person finally cast their vote around 12:30 am and then we could start to caucus.
I got their around 7:15 pm and could not believe how many people were there, but this is a good thing. At least people finally went out to vote. But, it should not have taken so long for the last person to cast their vote. We did not start to caucus till around 1:30 am and I did not leave there till 2:35 am. It was so disorganize and well under staff. But, with so many people turning out there should have been something in place so that this did not happen. Also, once the caucus started we found out that there were only two sign in sheets for our precinct. So we had to find blank sheets to write our information on. Luckily Channel 11 News arrives to witness the mess and shortly after that the constables arrive and started yelling at us instead of talking to us in a civil matter. I do not think that we were out of control. There were some people who were just upset about the whole mess and rightfully so. Something needs to be done so that this does not happen again.

Last night at Nimitz HS was a disgrace ...They weren't prepared for such a turnout that's ludicrous... there has been big voter turn out all round the country why would last night be any different...the lack of organization was amazing that in the age that we are living... posters or some type of section dividers couldn't have been created for each precinct..while the voting booths were open...I've always had a bad experience voting at Nimitz HS..never enough volunteers and a tremendous lack of leadership at the site...however it was amazing to see so many young and old voters willing to fight for a cause...I'm hoping next time not so many precincts will be assigned to such a small location. Last but not least...the A/C was conveniently turned off where caucus voters were waiting.

I was at Nimitz High School last night and I have videotape of how the conditions were. But I will say this to all who stood in line for change I salute you. They stood in solidarity as they cast their vote and went to caucus. I arrived at 9 30 a.m. and left at 3p.m. and returned at 6p.m. I did not leave until 3 a.m. It was an interesting experience to say the least and my hope is that the Harris County Clerks Office and all elected officials are ashamed at the treatment of the people who were there and that in November they will be prepared. This election was not a surprise-the turn out should not have been a surprise. Excuses will not do in November. Barack will win and the unifying voices of America crossing gender, generation, and race will be heard. To all the Barack and Hilary supporters we should fight for a fair system for both candidates- it may have been Barack who was short changed by the Harris County Clerks Office, and The Harris County Democratic Party yesterday but tommorow it may be Clinton.

Lets bring this nation together and forge a destiny of equality for all.

"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up." Author Martin Niemoller

One form of gerrymandering, packing, is to place as many voters of one type into a single district to reduce their influence in other districts. We have not forgotten one of the political tricks used long along. The reason for last night caucus crime was that voters of Obama type were all sent to single locations to vote. As many as 8 precincts assigned to single voting locations causing overwhelming crowds. The other trick was the old change the location at the last minute. I remember learning about this in history. It is 2008 and I never thought I'd see such tactics renewed and gotten away with. We were still waiting for the voters to clear out to start caucus when Hill good ole Goldwater Girl ** remember Goldwater who stood on the steps of the school with maybe a gun to stop the N---from coming in.He was against Civil Rights but Hillary supported him, and refers to him as admired??** She identifies herself as a Goldwater Girl on her website. If you are voting for her do you really know what she stands for? Google Barry Goldwater code State Rights. I am tired of the Clintons, they have fleeced the blacks and now they are back for the hispanics.
