Harris County Judge Republican candidate Charles Bacarisse made his first appearance at his victory party tonight at 8:20. We're on the second floor of a Cafe Adobe Restaurant on Houston's West Side.

The early numbers don't look good: 58 to 42 percent in Ed Emmett's favor. But those are just the numbers from early voting. Mr. Bacarisse is still wearing a smile, shaking hands with his supporters, and hoping the numbers will tighten as predicted in some recent polls.

We'll report back from that second floor bar later tonight as the rest of the numbers come in: a bar for drowning sorrows or for the victory the Bacarisse campaign hopes is still in those numbers.
