Where will you be during Obama's inauguration?

Where will you be during Obama's inauguration? Are you going to Obama's inauguration? If so you are one of lucky ones. I am dying to go, not just because it's an historical event, but because I've never been to a Presidential Inauguration before. Actually, I haven't even been to Washington yet.

But sadly, it looks like I'm going to have to wait another four years before I get my chance to witness an event like that in person. Instead, I'll be watching it somewhere in Houston.

THANKFULLY, THERE ARE INAUGURATION PARTIES IN TOWN
I was able to find five great inauguration parties in Houston, but before you start reading, I just want to say that these are no particular order and they are all happening on January 20, the night of the inauguration:

Barak Obama will be in Washington, but I won't.1) House of Blues Inaugural Ball for Barack Obama: This event kind of reminds me of New Year's Eve, but instead of ringing in 2009, you're ringing in Obama. Tickets range from $55 to $100 and the event is described as a lavish, black-tie, star-studded night with dinner, dancing, a champagne toast, live entertainment, celebrity and political appearances, and full screen coverage of the official inauguration ceremony. Whoo hoo!

2) Alamo Drafthouse: If you thought the House of Blues event was a little too fancy for your Tuesday night fun, you might want to check out the Alamo Drafthouse Mason. Their event is an all day beer extravaganza that begins at 11 a.m. and goes all night long. Where else can you watch history being made on the big screen while drinking beer from a bucket?

3) Hotel Derek's Inauguration gala and fashion show: Hotel Derek plans to host Obama's inauguration in style - literally. Tickets range from $40 to $450 and you'll not only get to watch the inauguration, but you can also see some of Houston's hottest sports players such as Rafer Alston and Jacoby Jones strut their stuff on a catwalk.

4) George R. Brown Convention Center and the 2009 Inaugural Black Tie Ball Houston: This black-tie affair is put on by Across The Track PAC and Friends. The cost is $100 per person or $150 per couple, but in addition to watching the inaugural evening on a big screen, you'll also have dinner, get a champagne toast and be entertained by Houston legend Sammy Relford.

5) Your own Living Room: I can't forget this one. A lot of people I spoke to said they are going watch the inauguration in the comforts of their living room. Some are having parties filled with snacks and fancy cocktails, while others plan on just popping a bowl of popcorn and settling down for the night. However, you decide to celebrate, CBS will start broadcasting the inauguration at 8:30 a.m. and it will Obama all day until 3 p.m. Then, at 8 p.m. there will be an hour long inauguration special.

So what will I be doing? I haven't decided yet, but snuggling up with a warm blanket and a bowl of popcorn is sounding pretty good.

MORE PLACES TO WATCH: (I'll add more as I learn about them)
1) Dimassi's Restaurant: Begin at 10:30 a.m. There will be a lunch buffet available starting at 11 a.m. The restaurant is located at 1039 West Bay Area Blvd.

2) Watch party at T.S.U starts at 10 a.m. in the Student Life Center.

3) Kingdom Builders' Center out on West Orem will have the power center set up to watch the event beginning at 9 a.m.

4) The Red Cat Jazz Cafe located at Main and Congress Downtown will be broadcasting the inauguration beginning at 11 a.m.

These are all evening events, but the swearing-in and speech are mid-day. Where can we go on our lunch hours to see it?
What exactly will CBS (and presumably others) be showing live in the evening?

On CBS, there will be a lot of coverage. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., it will Obama all day until 3 p.m. Then we go back to regular programing until 8 p.m. At this time, CBS will have an hour long inauguration special.

We are still working out if we'll be streaming everything live on the web at the same time.

The Alamo is the only event I found so far that is saying they will broadcast the inauguration beginning at 11 a.m. If I hear of any others, I'll keep you posted.

Just found another day event: Swirl Donuts will be having an Obama Brunch to commemorate the Inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama.

The brunch will include free donuts, coffee and cappuccino between 9am and 11am. They are located at 4353 Reed Road.

Last Concert Cafe's (Nance St.) Dawn Fudge says they will be partying til the cows come home!
Also, Bohemo's by UofH will be IN THE MOOD!
I'm starting at a neighborhood party hosted by my pal, Kat, and then moving along to share the joy!
