30,000 turned out for the Komen Run for the Cure.I don't know about you, but growing up, it seemed the only way you could raise money for cancer was by running your heart out or going on these really long bike-a-thons. I remember going door-to-door with my little pledge sheet asking people to sponsor me per mile. In fact, I think I covered more distance walking up and down driveways than I did in the actual races.

But not anymore. For those who want to help out, but aren't into the whole sweating-jogging thing, there are a number of ways you can help raise money for breast cancer awareness this October -- and most of them are fun!

Show your support with pink hair extensions.Pink Hair for Hope
Let's face it. Deep down you really want to do something wild with your hair, but just don't have the guts to do it. Well, beginning on October 11th you have the chance to show your pink-wild side in honor of breast cancer awareness -- and the best part is it's not permanent.

Steve Scholz of the Beautique Day Spa and Salon in Houston is hosting the Pink Hair for Hope campaign to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. For only $10, you'll get a pink hair extension - it only takes 15 minutes to have the extension added to your hair -- and get to satisfy your wild side.

All proceeds will be donated to the NBCF. Call 713-526-1126 to make an appointment.

Alden-Houston's a+ bar is serving up Tickle Me Pink martinis to raise money for breast cancer.Think pink with "Tickled Pink" martinis
Alden-Houston, downtown's finest boutique hotel, is thinking pink. The hotel's stylish a+ bar at 1117 Prairie Street is serving up a "Tickled Pink" martini throughout the month of October, benefiting The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. The martini is garnished with a pale pink rose petal and sells for $12 -- it's not any of those shown in the picture. The best part is that $5 from each drink goes directly to M. D. Anderson.

Rock out and help find a cure for breast cancer at Houston's Hard Rock Cafe. Concert series kicks off with Matt Brouwer.Hard Rock Cafe: Pinktober concert series on October 9, 16 and 23
Walk the pink carpet, enjoy a delicious dinner and listen to great music by local artists -- all while supporting breast cancer awareness at Houston's Hard Rock Cafe. Admission is $5 and all proceeds are donated to the Komen Houston Affiliate. Hard Rock will also raffle an autographed ovation guitar.

The concert series kicks off on Thursday, October 9, 2008, with live performances by Matt Brouwer and Sarah Fuselier.

Mmmm...mmm...good. Houston's Crave is offering a special cupcake gift box to help raise money for breast cancer support this October. Yummy pink cupcakes
I must admit, this one is my favorite just because I love cupcakes, and this helps take away the guilt of eating all those calories. But I'll let you decide for yourself.

Here's the deal: CRAVE Cupcakes has put together some limited edition "CRAVE-ing a Cure" gift boxes to help raise money for breast cancer. The gift boxes contain six of CRAVE's famous cupcakes -- two dark chocolate, two vanilla and two strawberry...yum. The cupcakes are decorated with the ubiquitous pink ribbon. The boxes are $19.95 and 100% of the proceeds go to the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of Medicine.

To get them, either place an order in person at the store at 1151-06 Uptown Park Blvd. or by phone at 713-622-7283. The boxes will be available from October 1st through October 11th.
