After working long hours during the Gustav news blitz, a friend announced she was going to go by the Red Box after work. At first I thought, this was some hot new Houston nightclub. Turns out, it literally is a "red" box where you can rent movies for a $1. "Really," said my friend, when I didn't believe her. "You just swipe your credit card like a bank machine and it's done." Now I was excited. Getting DVDs for a buck is bonus, especially after Blockbuster raised their prices this summer. But I admit I was still skeptical. I mean, how good could the DVDs be if they were only a $1? Were they B-movies that I had never heard of? Could I get new releases? Were there any of these Red Boxes in my neighborhood? I decided to check out their website at www.redbox.com and surprise - not only did they have new releases, but there were four outlets within a three block radius. Yay!! Of course, the choices are kind of limited, but they did have the most popular ones. "And you can reserve the ones you really want online and they'll keep them for you," said my friend. "They give you a code to punch in." Wow...all that for a buck. Now, if only I can get them to deliver. |
