Hurricane Ida weakening...

Ida is heading toward the Florida panhandle and is expected to make landfall there Tuesday morning as a minimal cat 1 hurricane with winds near 80mph at landfall. The storm is encountering cooler waters in the northern Gulf of Mexico and upper level wind shear is increasing from the southwest. These two factors are what have weakened the storm from cat 2 yesterday to a weakening cat 1 today.

Effects from the storm will be felt on our coast with increased wave action today and a coastal flood watch in effect. Only minor flooding of low lying coastal spots is expected.

Inland we remain mostly cloudy today with highs in the 70's. A drier air mass will move in tonight and make for cool mornings and warm afternoons with lower humidity Tuesday through Thursday.

The weekend is here!!!

Saturday is looking good, although increasing clouds and humidity are to be expected and that will lead to a chance for rain on Sunday. Most of the rain will fall on the coastal counties and may be quite heavy.

This area of rain will be accompanied by an area of low pressure which will push water and waves on to the upper Texas coast bringing a chance for minor coastal flooding. This rain has nothing to do with 'Ida.'

Ida is currently a depression over central America. The hurricane center is forecasting Ida to re-emerge and re-develop into a tropical storm and enter the eastern gulf on Tuesday. The forecast takes in into Florida on Wednesday night. If that forecast verifies the effects on the Texas coast from Ida will be minimal.

Hurricane Ida...

That's right, it's 'hurricane' Ida as of 7:am Thursday morning with winds of 75mph. Ida is sitting right on the Honduran coast and is moving slowly northwest.

The forecast from the hurricane center is for Ida to weaken back to depression strength over the next two days as it crosses over central America.

Although the extended forecast has Ida re-developing back to tropical storm strength and hedding into the southern gulf on Tuesday morning, I must remind you (and myself) that there is a tremendous amount of uncertainty in that extended timeframe.

Simply put, I urge you to monitor the storms strength and forecast over the weekend as it may be able to survive its treck across land and get into the gulf early next week.

Tropical trouble... in November??

An area of disturbed weather has become better organized this morning in the southern Caribbean Sea. An air force recon flight has been schedueled to investigate thea area this afternoon. I would not be suprised at all to see a depression or tropical storm form there in the next 24hrs.

Computers are not overly agressive in developing this system. However, intensity forecasts are 'iffy' at best and this thing could quicly strengthen. What there is of it will probably just sit near Honduras for the next couple of days before dirfting N-NE.

Will it impact the gulf?? We'll just take it one day at a time. I urge you to check here and get morning updates beginning at 4:30am the rest of the week and through the weekend.

The drought in southeast Texas is over. The sun is shining. Cool mornings and warm afternoons with low humidity... plenty of left over Halloween candy!!! Does it get any better than this???

Expect more perfect weather for election day today and the rest of the week. A tad bit warmer over the coming weeknd.

Rain chances pick up on Monday and Tuesday of next week as a pacific storm system rolls in.

Otherwise, except for the high ragweed pollen count, near perfect weather for the rest of the week!

Chilly mornings and mild afternoons with sunshine all over the place. Sound good?? How about a full 7 days of the good stuff with the perfect weather lasting through the week and into the coming weekend.

Lows in the upper 40's and low 50's may call for a jacket if you are voting Tuesday morning... then a warm up into the low 70's by lunchtime and a high in the mid 70's.

Hurricane season lasts through the end of November and althoug we are watching a little swir out near Bermuda, at this point it poses no threat to the United States. We'll keep an eye on it.

Enjoy the weather and have a great week!

Moderate flooding with the river cresting at 48'-50' is already covering some of the underpass turn-a-rounds under hwy 59. These will be impassable for the next day or two.

Flooding of Lake Point Dr. and Thelma in Northshore and Rivercrest Subdivisions may cut off homes during the weekend. Roads in the subdivision west of US 59 at the end of Hamblin Rd. will become impassable. No homes are expected to flood.

The good news is the rain is coming to an end and the flash flood watch has been canceled. Expecting nice chilly weather for football tonight and a lovely weekend for the air show at Ellington and trick-or-treating. Temps should be in the mid 60's for the little ghosts and goblins.

Dry weather expected through most of next week.

A fund has been set up to help Mable Randon, the impoverished cancer patient, pay her electric bill. You can make donations to the Mable Randon Benefit Account at any Amegy Bank.

But you have to physically walk into an Amegy Bank to do this. Tell them you want to make a donation to a benefit fund that has been set up for an individual. Tell them Ms. Randon's name and make your donation. They accept all forms of payment.

We continue to get emails and calls from folks who want to help Randon as she desperately battles cancer and tries to keep the power on at her home where she uses an oxygen machine powered by electricity.

So... when's the front going to get here?

It is VERY difficult to perfectly time the arrival of a cold front. But here's the way things stand this morning. The front has just passed through Dallas (8:30am) and is pushing south down I-45.

I expect the front to arrive in the Conroe area about 4pm. In the Downtown area by 6:pm and off the coast by 9:pm.

Looks like we will see a band of rain or thunderstorms with the fronts arrival and maybe some lingering light rain for an hour or two after frontal passage.

Temps will drop from the 90's into the 70's quickly, then into the low 60's for lows tonight with a north wind at 10-20 mph.

I expect a cloudy Friday morning and a sunny Friday afternoon with sunshine and cool temps through the weekend.
