Crystal Beach: Post Ike Water Update!!

12:11 PM Wed, Dec 31, 2008 |
Rosa Flores

Hi, Bloggers!!

I just got an e-mail with a Crystal Beach water update.

The good news is that the last water date has not moved back. It's still February 3rd.
While this is great news, it's still MONTHS after Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf.

Here's the link:
http://www.bpsud.com/documents/update123008.pdf

I did notice a note at the end of the document that is worth mentioning.
It states that some residents in the areas that are deemed 'with water' don't have water. So, if you want to double check if your hom...

Concrete Christmas Tree?

6:56 PM Tue, Dec 23, 2008 |
Rosa Flores

It's green! No, it's gray!
No, really it's the 'greenest' tree you'll ever find.
It's reusable.
It doesn't require water.
No sunlight.
But, its roots run deep.
The roots are so deep that lawsuits would unearth upon removal.

It's the Concrete Christmas Tree. >> Continue reading: Concrete Christmas Tree?

Crystal Beach: 3 months after Ike

6:13 PM Mon, Dec 22, 2008 |

A stove here, a car pileup there, a set of pilings without a house over there, a mattress, a washing machine, a dresser... the list of 'debris' that covers the streets of Crystal Beach goes on and on. Granted a lot has been picked up, but Ike just didn't have mercy.

Flight Instructions: Are they on your radar?

4:57 AM Mon, Dec 22, 2008 |
Rosa Flores

Good Morning Bloggers!

Do you pay attention to flight instructions when you fly?

I've got to admit that I stopped paying attention to flight instructions years ago. I feel bad admitting it, but I'm being sincere. I know I'm not alone because I've seen many people do the same.

Some of the passengers on the plane said they just knew they had to get off... and they did!

I always travel with a book and usually lose myself in the text and don't pay attention to flight attendants. I've never had a close call on a plane so I have been taking it for granted. ...

River Oaks area: Credit Card Crunch

Rosa Flores

Good Morning, Bloggers!

This season do you Shop or Chop your wish list? Everything seems to be so expensive these days that Christmas could break the bank for some families. But there is no need to break hearts; there are plenty of homemade gift ideas everywhere that deliver the same message: I love you! But if you are charging your credit card this season here is an important note.

The Federal Reserve delivered a very strong message to credit card companies yesterday in an effort to protect credit card consumers. The new rules shield consumers from increases in interest rates...

Northeast Houston: Major Accident

3:19 AM Tue, Dec 16, 2008 |
Juanita Jimenez

4:50 am

We just got a call from our assignment desk. A major accident just happened on highway 59 and Little York. So, we are loading our gear back into our news unit and into our live truck.

Here's what we know:
We have a transtar camera showing an 18-wheeler on its side. My executive producer just text messaged me to tell me that the cab appears to be on highway 59 and the trailer is over a concrete barrier that is blocking the HOV lane. I'm also told that fuel is spilled on highway 59.

We are on our way... I'll have an update soon.

Here's a link to transtar. It has the...

Good Morning, Houston!

We are on our way to North Houston. A group of people were arrested over night for cockfighting. I'm gathering information from our news desk and from people we have out on the field. I'll have an update as soon. See you on TV in about 45 minutes.

P.S. Check my comments section for updates

Here's a summary:

A cockfighting ring lost its bets yesterday when authorities busted into the makeshift gambling operation. Authorities arrested 6 people, seized 175 roosters, and confiscated 60 vehicles.

Near Downtown: LOW... Low...low gas prices

3:56 AM Fri, Dec 12, 2008 |
Juanita Jimenez

Good morning:)

OPEC didn't have a meeting, the stars didn't align, and God didn't mandate the reduced price of gas. But, paying $1.51 for gas feels like a miracle!

We're working on a story about low gas prices. About a year ago we were paying $1.30 more! Believe me, I remember those days... thinking Christmas is around the corner and I can't afford to buy GAS for myself for Christmas. Apparently the reduction in price is due to a decrease in demand.

Here's the gas breakdown:
Houston: $1.51
Galveston: $1.57
Texas: $1.56
National: $1.66

The lowest price ...

Good Morning!

Huge snowflakes fell in my area last night. It was awesome! But, this morning all the snow is gone:( So, Michele and I are headed north on I59 towards the thicker snow. We're told Liberty County has about 3 inches on the ground. I'm really hoping there's enough on the ground to build a snowman:) See you on TV in a bit. We are going on air at 4:30 am this morning.
E-mail me pictures from your neighborhood and I'll post them. rflores@khou.com

Near Downtown: Stinky day in court... literally

1:55 PM Tue, Dec 09, 2008 |

I rushed from my live shot location in the Montrose area to the courthouse at 1400 Lubbock. Dealing with traffic was easy. Finding the place was not. But, I parked, went through the metal detector and found courtroom 6 with time to spare.

Montrose Area: Free Stuff

5:50 PM Mon, Dec 08, 2008 |
Juanita Jimenez

Life is expensive and making ends meet is not easy. Affording breakfast means forking out at least $2.00 for coffee and another $1.89 for a pastry. Gas prices are on a decline (thank goodness) if it wasn't for that, driving to a coffee shop to buy coffee could cost double that amount. All this to say that when times are tough any little help can go a long way. So, wouldn't it be nice to get something for free?
