Parts of the Houston Ship Channel are open to commercial traffic, with restrictions.

The following openings and restrictions are in effect:

The Houston Ship Channel is open at all times to maritime traffic with a draft of 16 feet or less, but will remain open for daylight transit only from the sea buoy to Sims Bayou at project depth and Sims Bayou to the Turning No changes to draft limitations have been made to all other affected waterways.

On Tuesday, September 23, Congressman Michael McCaul will put teams of Congressional staff in Katy, Cypress and Tomball to assist with hurricane recovery and FEMA assistance.

FEMA packets for residents who need information about the federal claims process and hurricane aid will be given to people.

Post Office Box service for customers served by the Crystal Beach (77650), High Island (77623) and Port Bolivar Post Offices has relocated to the Winnie Post Office at 3234 Highway 124 in Winnie.

Patients evacuated from Galveston return to Houston

Forty-one Shriners Hospitals for Children-Galveston patients, families and hospital staff, who evacuated last week from Hurricane Ike, arrived Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Shriners Hospital for Children-Houston in the Texas Medical Center.

All of them were evacuated to a College Station middle school.

The Shriners Hospital for Children-Galveston, meanwhile, remains closed for an undetermined length of time.

Galveston hospital officials are in the process of regrouping their more than 300 employees who evacuated.

The City of Missouri City continues to contact CenterPoint Energy to respond to power outages in City neighborhoods. Some of the harder hit areas include those on the northeastern part including Texas Parkway, Hunters Glen and Fondren Park and the far south part of the City.

Texas taxpayers who were adversely affected by Hurricane Ike qualify for tax relief from the Internal Revenue Service, including the postponement of tax filing and payment deadlines until Jan. 5, 2009.
