Trash pickup
Waste Management is extending its collection hours to later in the evening. The company is collecting garbage from its residential and commercial customers on a majority of its routes in the Houston metro area.
Residents and businesses should follow these steps to assist in the speedy collection of their garbage:
• Separate household garbage from storm-related debris. This includes placing household garbage in a separate pile from storm debris.
• Do not lean trash or other objects against a garbage can, dumpster or roll-off container.
• Be patient. Collecting this large amount of garbage takes additional time than normal. If drivers do not reach a customer's street on the designated collection day, they will complete those routes the following day.

Where is the ice that was just adveritsed on Channel 11?
i appreciate all of the info for persons in Houston and se areas affected by IKE. However, people in ne areas without power, gas, and food need to know where to get help also. New waverly, willis, Coldspring, Shepard, Livingston also could use info on where to get needed items. Jeannie
PS
The bars and liquor stores seem to be open
Where is FEMA staging the free ice and water for poeple in the NW - Jersey Village Cy-Fair area. Thank you.
Be sure you save all receipts for expenses during recovery: food, housing, supplies, repair materials. Hopefully you have insurance that will reimburse you, but whether you do or don't, remember that all these expenses are "casualty losses" that may be income tax deductible when you do your tax return for 2008!
Blue tarps! Roofing assistance! We need help in League City area securing our roofs. How do we get on a list for tarps and assistance?
Thanks for providing this info. I am texting long-distance from NJ to my sister in Baytown re supply sources. This is a great help.
Here is a link for : Harris County Homeland Security & Emergency Management Newsroom
My brother and his family leave in west Houston--Luna Vista-to be exact. They need ice. Anyone know where they might find some...any emergency sites distributing ice?
Anyone know where I can buy gas in the Richmond/Rosenberg area.
Ccan we map these locations?
The area is so widespread.

We can't seem to find gas or ice near woodforest and normandy
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE IS THE HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT AT THE PRESENT TIME THAT THE HELP IS NEEDED NOW.
Where is there ice for residents that live near crosby and on the east side of houston? Please let me know if anyone knows.
Where is all the help for the far eastern side of Houston, Baytown, Mont Belviue, etc.? Also Deer Park , Pasadena, La Porte.
Need information on gas, ice, food in the LaPorte Pasadena and Deer Park areas.
I would like to say thank you to CBS Houston for allowing us to use this site to distribute this valuable information. You guys are doing a great job during this difficult time for our communities. We will all get through this, and be better and stronger for this. Thank you.
Whats the deal with AT&T cell phones...all go to voice mail after 2 rings and can't text today
Where can people in Baytown get water, ice, etc?
I am trying to relay info to friends in Cloverleaf by cellphone from out of state. Are any of these locations close to them? I know how to get to their house but am not familiar with alot of the street names and numbers.
Thanks
For people in the Deer Park area, ice will be available at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center beginning Sunday evening. However, this may be restricted to residents; the website doesn't mention this.

WalMart Katy Mills Mall Open (No Bread Available)
A map for these locations would be helpful.
I'm texting my friend in Kingwood (from Louisiana) and I'm not familiar with most locations.
My children and grandchildren are on the east side of Houston and have not heard of where to get ice or fuel. Do you know of places available in their areas? We are in NM and have been keeping up watching KHOU on direct tv.
Where is all the help for the far eastern side of Houston, Baytown, Mont Belviue, etc.? Also Deer Park , Pasadena, La Porte.
Anyone have info. for ice in Alvin area? Apparently the main elec. line to Alvin is down so it will be awhile.
Becks Prime in Sugarland is open tonight. The restaurant is located on US 59 south and HWY 6.
Just found out power is beginning to be restored in Alvin.
Just wanted to say, I know this was bad! People who are demanding help are NUTS! I know you need help and I think this site is great! But people Griping about the HELP from the Government and wanting it NOW. YOU KNEW A STORM WAS COMING, GET YOUR STUFF TOGETHER AND BE PREPARED. I know you may have lost stuff, but your alive. IF you didnt leave when you should have its no ones FAULT but YOUR OWN! Keep helping each other but none of us have a right to DEMAND HELP or COMPLAIN about the HELP WE GET!
Lone Star Kolaches of Richmond opened up today (on generator power) to help their customers with freshly-baked goods. I spoke to the owner and she was happy to do it. They are located at 1410 E. Hwy 90A in Richmond, TX - they will open at 5:30AM on Monday.
i wanted to thank you guys for all the information. i was born and raised in galveston/ texas city area and i have been able to pass all of this imformation along to many family and friend and they are so greatful. i would like to say though that some of the gas stations are out of gas that are listed ( so i have been told) but reagardless much appreciated
Walmart on Garth in Baytown not to open until tomorrow 9/15 when they have gas.
Houston was NOT prepared for Hurricane Ike! The local government officials have let us down. Power won't be restored for weeks and it's hard to find food and gas. The stores are understocked. I'm disappointed in the officials of Houston!
People complaining about no help - you are being unrealistic and demanding - be assured many are working their backsides off to get aid to the stricken areas, but it isn't easy! Those of us have been through violent hurricanes can tell you that. This process will not happen overnight, but will take many months to get things back on an even keel. Crews from all over the US are headed in your direction and will work their hardest to get your power restored, get you food, water and ice, so STOP COMPLAINING! You had time to prepare, so if you're depending on someone else to bail you out, be thankful that you're still alive and be thankful for what you get. Maybe don't wait around but try to be part of the solution instead of the problem.
I have a sister who lives in Baycliff, haven't heard anything on how the homes there faired. Does anyone have any information. Specifically Sevan Street. Can't get through by phone, but have been in contact with her through email when she has internet service, which is sporadic. She evacuated to the west side of Houston and would love some information about her area.
Thanks,
Linda
This is great info which I can relay to friends who stayed in the area as we sought shelter elsewhere. It is ridiculous to complain about handouts not available as we all know there is lag time. It is NO GOOD to be without needed items though preparation is key. We left town though were stocked with needed items before we left because preparation is KEY. Thanks for keeping folks in touch with what is going on.
My son's one vehicle is not working. Does anyone know of any stations that are open at this time in the tomball area? Please email me.
HEB and Murphy's (Wal-Mart) at Kempwood & N. Gessner were selling retail gasoline this afternoon (Sun 9/14) $3.40 per gallon. Love's I-10 west of Katy Mills selling reg unl for $3.99 per gallon.
We are all in the same boat - but now is not the time to complain - it is the time to help each other. This blog is great. It helps to share resources and knowledge to help each other out. No matter how much you plan ahead no one could predict we would be without power for this long and who knows how much longer. So please keep the info coming - especially gas stations. Many people I know have generators and are getting low. If anyone knows of any stations opening Monday in the Pasadena/Deer Park/LaPorte area ploease let us know - Thank you so much for info!!
I live off HWY 6 and 288. we need to find gas As soon as possible. i would appreciate any leads that this community has? Thanks and "be blessed'
thanks for all the info. all of my family is houston and surrounding cities. no one had power and had to rely on cell phone texting to get updated info. i am in virginia and appreciate up to date info. as they tell me "keep the info coming". good luck to you all with the clean up. hang in there for power to be restored. god bless.
The following Associated Credit Union of Texas locations will be open tomorrow:

The news report on KHOU about Fema supply POD information being available on the web site was insulting and neglectful. Those without Food, Water, Ice, and Internet do not have access to the Web and thats why they are watching TV to find out information about the Fema Points of Distribution. Somebody should redo that clip and put a map and the locations where people can pick up the Fema supplies, which by the way, are already late.
Have a friend in Harris County - Edgebrook and
I -45 in need of a diesel for generator and what gas station nearby to purchase... can anyone help know what is open?..
Thanks and our prayers are with you,
Cheryl
Why are they're no PODS in Lake Jackson. They have no electricity no stores open no nothing!
They're are a lot of people there that need ice and water
Why are there no PODS in Lake Jackson? Lake Jackson has no electricity no stores open, nothing to help the citizens that are trying to survive. They're are a lot of people who need ice and water.
Can anyone tell me they are sending trucks with supplies like water and food to humble texas? I have some friends there that need these things. They do not have power at home. So it's hard to get information to them.. Please help! the town is humble texas.
We live in north Texas but our sons live in the Houston area. I have been giving them the information from KHOU via cell phones since they have no electricity. Does anyone know where they can get gasoline in Splendora, Cleveland, New Caney, or Porter?
Can someone tell me hwere people on the northside near I45 North and Airtext can get assistance with food, gas, ice and water. I have have drove around for hours to find nothing open. Please can someone help!!!
Help really, really is on the way folks. We held out through the storm but our kids coudn't take the power outage. We left for the in-laws' house in Florida. ALL along I-10 there were SO many electric trucks driving TOWARDS Houston. It is coming. Be patient. Take a breath. Pray.
papa la rosa is also open under food, on lexington in sugarland, :)
We have worked many hurricanes from Florida to Louisiana. It takes a little time to get everything organized and in place no matter how quick folks get things together. People who are concerned about whether they are going to receive help need to know that we have never seen anyone go without. And this is the quickest I have seen the government respond to any hurricane we have worked. It just takes time to recover after a devastation such as this. Hang on and know that people are working constantly to get everyone the help they need. And next time they tell us to prepare, we should heed the advice.
I made it throug Katrina and you will all make it through Ike.
I am from Louisiana and was recently out of power for 2 weeks after Gustav. Help will be coming to you in the next few days from all over the United States. These power men work 24/7 getting your power up. They live in tents and so eat MRE. They come to help you. Remember to thank they when you see them.
God Bless All of You

M2 Resources is a local roofing and exteriors company currently assisting with emergency repairs (tarp & weather in) of roofing and windows. They are currently working in the Katy, northwest Houston and southern Montgomery county areas including the Woodlands.

Hi. My parents live in Cleveland area. Your telling everyone to go to the internet but they have no electricity to power the computer.
They are so frustated because of the lack of communication from Channel 11 news for the Cleveland and the surrounding Liberty county.
We know everyone has to do their part in times like these. But, they are elderly, hot, and their gas and food supply is running low.
Is there anyway to report the POD in Liberty county? Thanks so much! We know how hard you guys are working and do appreciate it.
Why is everyone complaining about not having food, ice or gas? Were you not prepared? Did you not heed the warning? My family began planning last Wednesday --- why didn't you?
Now is not the time for complaining & bickering --- be happy you are alive. Thank you for the blog and the information.
I'm really irritated by those of you that are demanding government's help right now and complaining that it's not fast enough. Everyone in the area was advised to have a minimum 3 DAYS of supplies going into this. You are only 2 1/2 days into the disaster and the governmental help will be open tomorrow. As far as the power and gas issues. NOBODY can control trees falling on lines and the companies are out there doing everything they can and help is coming in from all over the country to assist. Gas cannot be pumped without power.
I've spent the last 2 days feeding information to my mom regarding the situation via text.
I'm fortunate that I don't live in a place where hurricanes hit but I've been snowed in for many days in the past and recognize that in times of weather related disasters I alone am responsible for my well being. I sure as heck better have enough food available to feed myself for 3-5 days. Never mind water, firewood (imagine doing being without power when it's 10 degrees out), and all other necessary supplies.
All, take care of yourselves, know that people all over the country are on their way to help and that you are in the prayers of millions.
exactly Brian, My husband bought 150 pds of ice on thurs & another 80 pds friday am before the storm hit. All of this for about $25. We still some left. You have to prepare. We are in the League City. We did not evacuate & made sure we had plenty of food, ice & gas. My Suburban is still filled up so we are good for another week & a half. We all just need to wait & things will be opened. Today is only day after Ike hit. We just need to give them a chance to open. I have lived in Houston all my life so I remember Alicia 25 yrs ago & it is already better than then.
We are alive & should be greatful for that.
As already stated, PODS Locations will be Listed on Monday. Hours of operation are daylight unless noted otherwise.
Does anyone have a List of locations selling Generators?
I am looking for gasoline near spring texas. I am off sawdust rayford exit. Anyone know where we could find any.
thanks
i am looking for gas in the spring texas area. I am off the sawdust and rayford exit.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
I am extremely disappointed that the Channel 11 media has continuously dogged the efforts of the local government, state government and utility support teams. We do not appreciate the negative attitudes toward all the progess that has been made. I encorage the citizens to continue the spirit of being a good neighbor and ignore the attempts of the media to encite neagtivity to increase Channel 11's ratings. You do not speak our voice.
I am misplaced Texan in Utah. I have been watching the news non stop since Hurrican IKE hit. THANK YOU CHANELL KHOU FOR THE NON STOP INFORMATION. I just wish whoever the lady who keeps causing the confrontations with the help being given to Houston during the media questions would just keep her mouth shut. I think that everyone in TEXAS is handling everything great. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND DON'T LET SOMEONE LIKE THAT ruin out great state of TEXAS.........
my prayers and thoughts are with you all.
I was trying to keep up with KHOU for my elderly grandfather who has not been able to return home to see the condition of his home yet, but every time I listen to the reports, I get angry. It sounds like I am listening to people from New Orleans. I am extremely amazed and disappointed that there are so many people complaining about FEMA not being there immediately to provide them with water & food, about the supplies not being delivered to them by a particular time, and on and on. I guess they would have preferred to have the government trucks parked in Houston while the hurricane was coming through -- then when everything would have been blown away, they could have complained about how stupid FEMA was to park the truck in Houston while a hurricane was coming through. And the news people who keep bringing up the delivery of supplies, QUIT. The officials should not even waste their time responding to your crap-starting questions. The hurricane bounced from one end of Texas to the other. There was no possible way that FEMA or any of the Texas officials knew exactly where the supplies needed to be stored (of course, out of Ike's path) so they could be readily available with a few days after the hurricane. It has only been a day. And within that 24 hours period, not only did a hurricane come through, but also a front that also produced heavy rains and flooding. So what if the FEMA truck was not parked on your street right after the winds died down. It has only been ONE (1) day, and many people already have power back on. You were even able to let friends and family know how you were doing during and after the hurricane via cell phone. Many people who go through a hurricane cannot even reached loved after a hurricane for 5+ days much less talk to family and friends while going through one. In addition, there are numerous, I repeat numerous, stores, gas stations, and restaurants that were already open less than 24 hours after Ike came through. Obviously, if you can post complaints on the internet, you are much better off than most people right now. If you are that thirsty or that hungry, QUIT complaining and take your butt to the store and buy the water and the food that you need that you should have already had on hand for your 3-4 days supply to begin with prior to the storm. It is a KNOWN FACT that any time a hurricane is approaching (you have plenty of time to prepare), you should have at least 3-4 days worth of water and non-perishable food for each person until help can arrive. You really don't realize how fortunate you are. We were out of power for at least 10 days. We had no stores open, and then when they finally opened, we had to stand in a line and they would only let a few in at a time because they also still had no power. After driving 30+ miles for gas, we had to sit in a long line and wait for gas for our generators because we were out of power for so long. Not once did we complain. Not once did we wait for handouts. And we were extremely grateful for all the people who came to help us pick up the hurricane debris and deliver supplies. We knew they were doing the best they could to help us in a devastating situation. It is funny . . . the complaints are from people who are better off than those who suffered the most damage. Obviously, you have never lost everything... I mean everything you owned in an instant. Quit relying on the government (which is actually us taxpayers) when you should have prepared and had the means to be self-sufficient for 3-4 days. Leave the supplies for those who actually need them; those who lost everything... supplies, water, their car, their home, and so forth. Quit your complaining and take care of yourself for a change. You are greedy, selfish, and ungrateful! Perhaps if so many of us would not have prayed for the past week for God to have mercy on those in Ike's path, you would have beared total destruction and then you could have really had something to complain about. You need to change your heart. It's not always about: Me, Myself, and I. Now go on... get in your car and go to the store and buy what you need.
Where is gas in the medical center area?
Thanks for posting that information, wish I'd seen it earlier before I was out.
I have to say I am appalled by some of the comments here. How did America develope such lazy minded, irresponsble people - we have to complain that the government didn't get us free ice quickly enough??!!
Newsflash: ice isn't a neccesity, and isn't owed to us. If you want ice you excercize your brain and freeze some in your freezer before the storm. It's nice if they can give some out, but to complain about not having it should be an embarassment!
And as to why it took a bit for them to get supplies to those of us who needed some help, I thought it was very well explained: logistics. Common sense really.
Need DIESEL in the Spring area for our truck. Can go 20 miles in any direction, just need to know there will be DIESEL! Thank you to anyone who can help.
I saw a gas truck filling up the gas station (might be a Valero - not 100% sure) at 249 and Grant Rd last night at about 8pm. The line was already starting to build up before the guy in the truck had finished pumping, and that was 9 1/2 hours ago, so it may be empty again for all I know. Might be worth a check if you live in the Willowbrook area, though.
As for the people complaining, I say give them what they need first. I went into this thing prepared. No generator at home (I'm posting from work where we're on via a massive diesel generator on a 24-hour refill schedule), but I have plenty of canned food and water. Besides, tomorrow is barbecue day, since the meat in my freezer is starting to thaw! Hamburgers, various types of deer meat, grilled chicken, and warm beer. I call that a good day.
KTRH's website (740AM) also has a bunch of good resources, like POD & shelter locations, store openings, important phone numbers, etc.
http://www.ktrh.com/pages/weather.html
Best of luck to you all, and if I see any gas or PODs, I'll post them asap.
I agree with what is being said about stocking up on essentials like ice, canned goods, etc. I think the power companies especially Texas-New Mexico power haven't really done much to provide up-to-date information on their sites regarding power updates. It doesn't look like Texas-New Mexico power has done much since Rita to update their diaster information system. Their updates are just press releases that give the number of people that haven't lost power to make them look like their doing the job. No real information for those of us without power. This is a good test to see who has done the pre-planning job after Rita and those that have sat on their hands.
Anyone know where to get gas in League City Texas? We are in South Shore.
Anyone know where to get ice in league city Texas?
I have power and refroze the containers of ice that i used for two days. I can also make more ice. If those of us who can, share ice with those who don't have it, we could make a difference...call it the multiplication of ice. I'm going to gather up what I have and go find someone who needs it.
1/2 gallon or gallon size containers work best for keeping food cold in coolers.
Where is there a Post Office near Spring TX 77379 opened? I'm in Connecticut and want to send a package to my daughter.
There was lots of ice at the kroger at I-45 & 518(league City) about an hour ago.
I have several cases of water but tried to donate yesterday and Tully stadium would not accept them because they had enough. Is there a place on the westside of Houston to donate?
Houston is bleeding to death just like New Orleans did. By the time a person can find out where supplies might be located, the supplies are gone. I emptied my car's gas tank looking for gas. No electricity. No ice. Dwendling food and water supplies. You gotta wonder how the most advanced country in the world can let this happen time after time after time. It really shows that, at the end of the day, our infrastructure is no better off that the most backward of third world countries. Perhaps our form of government is not much better either. Thank God for the goodness of most people in our society or there would probably be killings and lawlessness just as there is in other countries.
Bleed on, Houston. Stay on that Fiddle, Mayor White. Keep making your political speeches County Judge Emmitt Bush. Rome is burning but we sure are enjoying the show.
Dear KHOU team -
Big hugs to David, Mario, Gene and Dr. Frank and the rest of the KHOU news team.
You've done a great job in keeping us informed of the weather, the damage, the recovery and where to obtain supplies. As a member of the TMC healthcare, I appreciate all your hard work to provide us with information we will need as we are released to return to our families soon.
Get some rest for a job well done!
Your news team has been a good source of information for me. I have no power as the rest of some of you, but thank God for batteries! Keep up the good work, guys!
Les
Why isn't there any information at all about Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte?? Have we fallen off the map? I heard them talking about places like San Leon. We don't know where to get food, water, FEMA help. They are completely avoiding talking about us. It's not helpful for me to hear that I can drive to Conroe for food and gas.
EXTENDED STAY AMERICA IN AUSTIN IS KICKING OUT EVACUEES!!
My family evacuated to Austin and have been staying at Extended Stay America. Today they have decided to kick out all evacuees to "make room for other guests". I called for comment and the assistant manager stated, "these guests only made reservations until today and we do not have rooms for them as we have new guests checking in today." This is ridiculous!!! As if these evacuees could have predicted that their homes would be destroyed and have no where to go. Many of these evacuees are families with children and pets that simply cannot go to shelters and opted to stay in hotels on their own dime rather than use the state's money. I am outraged by the acts of Extended Stay America.
I would just like to say WAY TO GO HOUSTON! Some might be complaining/crying that the federal hasn't stepped up to the plate, but who cares...we don't need them. We have been taking care of our own and that is the way it should be...brothers helping brothers! When all the responsibility gets shouldered to the federal government, they screw up and our taxes still go up! So I say WAY TO GO HOUSTON for doing it the right way...our way!
I really appreciate this information. The City of Pasadena is virtually leaving the citizens in the dark and offering little or no information. Thanks to KHOU for publishing the few stores open in the Pasadena area.
This is for all that stayed and did not evacuate from Ike when you had the chance, you had plenty of time to stock up on bottled water and food (light and gas well you can not stock up on that). My two nephews that both work for the county where they live could not evacute (or better were not allowed because of their type of jobs they do) stocked up on bottled water and food that does not have to be heated. They have enough to last them for two weeks or more. As far as the light they have been without light since Friday at around 6:oo pm. I have several friends that work for AEP/Centerpoint Energy and I know that they are all out there working their collective butts off to get everyones power back on as soon as possible. It just takes a few minutes for power lines to go down but they can not be repaired in just one hour. My friends leave their families ever time there is a disastes somewhere (no matter the time or the place), they sometimes work 24 hour shifts to get the power back up, I know this because they are my friends and I have been told stores and have seen pictures of them working in dangerous conditions. Most of the time they get no thanks just complaints, remember you could have evacuated to a safe place that has plenty of food and electricty. Just like with Katrina and those that chose to stayed behind then, they had to learn their leasons the hard way. Now I guess the same for all that chose to stay behind with Ike, leason learned I hope. My families prayers are with you all especially with those that lost or have damages to their homes. My niece (who evacuated) lost the roof to her apartment and her things are gone, to my nephew (who HAD to stay) has roof damage, to all those from Surfside to Galveston that evacuated and have no homes to go back to, to all those that have damages in all of the areas hit by Ike. To all the families that lost loved ones not only in Texas but all states that suffered from Ike. Just to let you all know that I used to live in the Houston area so I know what it is like to evacuate from a storm. My family evacuated for Rita on the 20th of Sept and my first granddaughter was born premature on the 21st due to the evacuation. I had to leave my 15 year old son behind with family because I had no room in the car (that broke my heart) but I knew that they would leave and they did on the 21st. I know how hard it is to leave everything behind and to be goon for weeks on end, but in my heart of hearts I know that it is better to be safe the sorry. Good luck to all and God Bless. Again my families prayers are with you all
I couldn't have said it better myself Daniel! Just had to repost!

My sister is texting me from Kingwood. Gas station on 1960 is two miles long. Already reviewed the Supply List/Blog on this site. Any advice on gas stations close to Kingwood?
By the way, she is home with a baby and two small boys. She was smart and stocked up on all she could LAST WEEK and is horrified some people are whining that services and supplies they suddenly can't live without are taking too long. This was a DISASTER and there is a purpose to preparedness plans. Magic fairies are not waving wands and restoring everything to the state it was a week ago. It takes time and effort and a little bit of patience. A little creativity goes a long way too. I got a generator delivered to her (using Craigslist and PayPal - on a Sunday. Lesson: Help yourselves! Quit waiting for a handout.) Everyone was warned to prepare for major inconveniences lasting up to 2 or 3 weeks. There is an awful lot of whining on this web site...and it's only Day 3. She also said this was the best web site to look for info...She was right! More info! Less whining!
KHOU has been doing a great job on TV, otherwise the radio coverage has been lacking. I am keeping my family updated from Kerrville via phone because I can watch TV. The mistakes are coming from the lack of detail provided over the radio. Just a reminder: When giving directions to locations of the PODS, and open gas stations...ECT; Speak slow, allow people to write down this information because I know without my help, my family would be without a lot of helpful information.
Stay safe, & God Bless:)
NEED GAS INFO FOR I-10 NEAR NORMANDY AND WOODFOREST PLEASE
COMPLAINERS!!: you were warned to be prepared for the worst...AND THE WORST HAPPENED... everyone should have stashed enough food and water to last at least 5 days (or more) whether you stayed or evacuted....I am a resident of Houston (on the west side) but have been spending most of my time in the New Orleans area helping my family's business recover from Katrina as well as dealing with my Mother's estate. I try to return to Houston every 4-6 weeks...On my 4th of July trip I stashed all loose items in case of a July or August hurricane. I planned another 4-5 day trip home over Labor Day weekend, but spend the time evacuating East to Florida with my New Orleans relatives to escape Hurricane Gustave. We took their tried & true back-roads route thru Mississippi & Alabama to the Florida panhandle which took only 4 hrs. If I'd tried to go to Houston, I was looking at a 14+ hr drive instead of my normal 6-hrs besides clogging the roads for the Southwestern La evacuees.....Even though we were staying in a large, fully-equipped Condo, we still packed enough non-perishable food, water & other beverages for a week....We left all the "Hurricane Supplies" (food, beverages, batteries, etc) in our cars in prep for Hurricane Ike. Hurricane Hanna's weekend was spent clearing the mess Gustave left at the business & my brother's house ....Hurricane IKE kept me from Houston last weekend and I've been told to stay away until after Sept 22...YES! I AM ANXIOUS TO FIND OUT HOW MY CONDO SURVIVED BUT I KNOW I NEED TO LET THE 1ST RESPONDERS & POWER RESTORERS CLEAR THE STREETS...I will bring my car fully stocked with food & water in case I still do not have power as well as other supplies my friends might need. -- ANYONE WHO STAYED IN THE AREA (NORTH, SOUTH, EAST OR WEST OF HOUSTON) THAT DID NOT STOCK UP FOR AT LEAST A WEEK WAS STUPID --1ST RESPONSE: SEARCH & RESCUE -- NOT FEED & WATER.....OR EVEN GAS -- AND YOU SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING AROUND LOOKING FOR SUPPLIES 2 DAYS AFTER IKE AS YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO STOCK UP WITH ENOUGH TO LAST YOU 5 - 7 DAYS AT LEAST....QUIT GRIPING & COMPLAINING AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF -- REMEMBER THIS THE NEXT TIME!!!!!! YOU WERE WARNED!!!
:: G Fielder :: , Thank you for the info about the Walmart in Katy. I haven't left the house yet because I'm trying to avoid driving around but I really need more food. I thank you again for that information. If anyone else knows of anything open in or near Old Town Katy Texas, please let us know. EXAMPLE :
Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Fiesta, Randalls,HEB, any Banks or gas stations, anything please let us know.
May God be with you all.
We need help in Friendswood and Pearland. The closest FEMA truck is in Seabrook and even if we could afford the gas, nobody is allowed in there bacause of the damage. Why does spanish Pasadena get 2 sites and we on the west side of the Gulf Freeway are left on our own? If White had 2 cents worth of sense he'd thought about haw people were supposed to get to those truck and IF they could get to the trucks. There are people without transportation and extremely limited funds, we need ice and food too.
Please I am in Alice TX but my family is there in the North Side close to 45 and 610 and cannot find any gas they have been driving for hours- everything in that area is still closed and no one on any of these blogs seems to be mentioning that area. What is open in that area? Please any help will be greatly appreciated.
If you are in the Kingwood, Conroe, Porter, Humble area, Fu Lee Chinese Restaurant is Open for business. They are doing TOGO orders only, but if you are out of food and want a hot meal, stop by there and they can take care of you. They are running their business from their Generator that they took from their home so please thank them when you seem them. They are located off 59 North and NorthPark in the Northpark shopping Center next to Luby's. I think they are one of the only restaurants open in the area. Call 281-359-6886 if you want to place an order. Help is coming your way, please be patient and remember we are all thinking of you.
I gassed up both my cars and stocked up with enough food and water for at least a week I miss
the AC but think I got off easy with just minor damage.Whats with all the people driving around
don't they know that gas may be in short supply
I live in Cloverleaf very badly hit have not seen any electric in area where can you get ice in the Northshore area and gas?
readtwice So glad you are one of those with not only the money but the transportation to stock up well in advance. There are many people without transportation and funds and we are NOT STUPID for not stocking up. When you have very little to survive on in the best of conditions, you are completely out of luck after a storm like this. Stop being smug and look around. There are people in your area I'm sure that need your help, not your sarcastic attitude.
hello was wondering about help in new caney and splendora.seem to forgot we where here.also where is the redcross out here so we can get help we need food water, and ice?
bonnie
this pod had a limit of two ice bags and bananas. However , does anyone have any info on actual meals given out in Pasadena close to this pod on 2910 E. Southmore ?? Resident has had no real food in 3 days, and is running out of his supply . Also he is a fairly recent heart patient and has a hernia and needs to save the little bit of fuel he has . Which also reminds me any gas stations close to Shaver or this pods location?? HELP PLEASE !!
I have a 18 wheeler with a refrigerated reefer. Im in Asheville,N.C. Who can I contact about bringing an 18 wheeler load of ice to the houston area?
I spoke to my boss, she is out in Fort Bend and they have not seen FEMA pods yet in her area. Anyone have any word for them. Also she said no power so they are needing the information over the radio.
Hi,
People living in Willis, Conroe and further up North of I-45. I was able to get info about gas/food...HEB on N. Frazier, gas on N. Frazier and FM3083. Another gas station is in The Woodlands- Shell gas station located on Forest Research/Gosling. If anyone else knows of other gas stations, please post the location so I can contact my family who don't have water or power.
Thanks,
Veronica
P.S.- jeannie I hope this help you.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for offering your help for the folks here in Houston. According to the news, people are dropping off items to the FEMA locations, where the pods are located, to help other people. We appreciate you help and offering for the ice.
God bless you and your family.
For those of you in the Spring Cypresswood/Kuykendahl area, there is sopposed to be a delivery of fuel to the Chevron tonight at 8PM. I spoke with the owner there this morning. I'm going to take a chance and show up early. Good luck!
For the man with the load of Ice....Wow! You are a nice man. I know of a Target (I-45 and Cypresswood) and a WalMart (I-45 and Louetta) that could use it. I was there this morning and people were needing food and medications that needed to stay cool.
Thanks for offering!
Pearland needs some POD's. Pearland High School would be a good location. Need some closer to Friendswood area. Please give updates on Pearland. We havn't heard anything about that area.
One case of water - $3.99.......10 cans of ravioli - $6.00 ....Being prepared for a hurricane....Priceless!!
Does anyone know where to get ice in the Alvin area?
Update for folks on I-45 North towards Conroe, The Woodland, Spring area.... there is gas at the Kroger located on 2920. Up North of I-45 exit 114 (FM1374) at the gas station Valeros and Chevron.
My sis drove up North on I-45 and there were signs saying "No fuel go to next station" and she saw these signs on several locations but decided to stop at one and she was able to buy gas even though the sign said "NO FUEL". These gas station are not willing to help people in the Conroe, Willis, Huntsville area who are in need of gas.. WHAT JERKS. Come on people, we are all suppose to help each other out in a time of crisis.
Am trying to help my mom in Houston, I'm in CA. Am trying to locate dry ice for them. Do y'all know where they can purchase some?
After reading all of these comments, I only have a few words: Ice is NOT a necessity of life! People have lived for hundreds/thousands of years w/o ice! The gov't isn't responsible for your every need! What i-s a necessity is food and water and perhaps other necessities. Prepare yourself for next time! Shut off the TV..shut off the PS3..get off that cell phone and get prepared!
This could happen again soon! When you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

This was just posted to this website. Hopefully this will help some people looking for things. Also, if you click on the "IBC Bank Open" link above and keep clicking to the next story ">" you will find a lot more information -- including other city and county stores that are open.
Stay safe!

In response to all of those who wish to sit in judgement of the citizens of Louisiana who survived Katrina. Yes, people should have been better prepared, and yes they should have done this, or that, but who died and made any of you king. It is time to stop all of the judging because NONE of us are perfect. If we all had foresight of exactly what was going to happen, we would have all taken care of what is truly important our families.
I am so sick and tired of people using the citizens of Louisiana as a springboard to show what not to do in a time such as this, clean up your own backyards before you start trying to clean up someone elses. It's so funny how not to long ago citizens from Louisiana were referred to as refugees, now the refugees of Texas have to depend on the citizens of Louisiana to help them out. How does it feel now.
I am pretty sure before these tragedies no one sat down and said, "How can I get the government to take of me," especially at the risk of losing their lives and the lives of their family members. To the woman who spoke of having a generator and having to wait in the line for gas, why didn't you stock up on your gas prior to the hurricane?
You should all remember, until you have walked a mile in someone elses shoes, you don't know what they have gone through. Now it's your time to reap what you have sown.

West Houston - WestBelt at I-10 Area - Gas & ICE
Gas & Ice are being sold daily at the Cash-Gas station at the corner of Hammerly & Brittmoore (near I-10 and WestBelt)....until they run out of gas & wait for another daily supply.
I live within viewing distance...so I can SEE this. There are NO prices posted on their gas signs, but they always sell gas CHEAP (for cash-ONLY).
Best Wishes & God Bless!
Kroger Fuel at 2920 and Kuykendahl opens at 8:am Wednesday and closes at 6:pm. Lines have been short; around 20 minutes to get to pump. They have several employees directing traffic, so it's nice and orderly.
Far East Chinese Restaurant - opened
6502 Del Monte Dr.
Houston, TX 77057
- may also have ice
On Monday 9/15 the Shell station at Main and Dulles (Sugarland area) opened with lines of people. I waited for about 45 min at a pump and when it was my turn I went inside the store to pay. The clerk (whom I wish I knew his name) shouted at me demanding to know how much gas I wanted. It was a frenzy and I tried to see what pump I was at and he proceeded to keep shouting. I told him that I'm looking to see what pump I was at and he growled WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT, and i said why are you so rude? I'm just trying to see what pump number I'm at. He threw my credit card back at me and told me that I was rude and denied me gas. Luckily the man behind me helped me out and let me pump gas after he paid. That clerk stood there and told other customers that came in that I will be moving my car and they can pump gas after me. I told him that this is the compassion you have for the people here? he said that's all the compassion I have for you. I don't know who's right or wrong here but we are all in a bad situation, and people should help other people. I'm disgusted at how I was treated and would like others to know about that nameless clerk.
check out www.pollabear.org for up to the minute information on what is going on in Southeast Texas after Hurricane Ike. Video footage, POD locations, Food Stamp Locations, FEMA locations etc.
GLAD HOUSTON AND COASTAL AREAS ARE GETTING HELP. HOWEVER, SPLENDORA, CLEVELAND, SHEPHERD AND OTHER AREAS NEED HELP BAD!!!!! WHY ISN'T THERE A POD IN THESE AREAS. THERE ARE MANY ELDERLY HOMEBOUND PEOPLE THAT NEED HELP.
mc made the statement that they purchased 150lbs of ice and another 80lbs....no wonder there is a shortage with ppl hoarding like that. I too was prepared but HELLO.....ice melts and food runs out
Excuse me Judy but I was talking about last wed & thurs NOT THIS WEEK so I don't see where was hoarding when it was days before it hit when people should have been evacuating anyway. We were preparing for a long wait. We went to a place that has bulk ice NOT the local gas station or store with bags of ice. It is a self serve ice place that holds well over 20,000 # of ice at a time anyway. Oh & by the way, our ice has just melted in the past day. We also had a generator going so no food was ruined & we didn't run out.

I presume your comment, "To the woman who spoke of having a generator and having to wait in the line for gas, why didn't you stock up on your gas prior to the hurricane? You should all remember, until you have walked a mile in someone elses shoes, you don't know what they have gone through." was directed at me. First, I am from Louisiana. Second, I moved from Louisiana because of the poor economy and the crooked politicians. If the levees would have been properly maintained, they probably would not have failed and flooded New Orleans. New Orleans did not take a direct hit from Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans was on the left side of the hurricane. It was Mississippi who took the direct hit, but yet all we heard about was New Orleans, and three years later, that's all we still hear about. My point was about complaining instead of helping yourselves and your neighbors. We never heard Mississippi residents complain. Third, Hurricane Ivan was the first major hurricane that I ever went through. Most people are not even aware of the destruction caused by Hurricane Ivan or even heard of Ivan. If they had, they would have evacuated for Ike. We did not whine; we did not post complaints on the internet; we did not rob and loot our neighbors and our community stores. In fact, people who were completely devastated during Ivan installed signs in their yards that said, "You loot, we shoot". In addition, if I would have been sitting anywhere along any coastline in Louisiana or Texas and heard that Okaloosa Island, FL was flooding, Dauphin Island, AL was flooding, and 22-26 ft waves were hittig the pier in Pensacola, FL, the authorities would not have had to tell me twice to leave. I would have been long gone. Possessions can be replaced; lives cannot. I lost everything in Ivan due to the storm surge so I have walked in those shoes (in addition to losing those shoes).
Now as far as your comment directed at me, we did have gas for our generator; but being our first major hurricane, never did we think we would need to keep a generator running for 10+ days. I now know how destructive a hurricane and its storm surge can be. But obviously, if you only focused on that one sentence out of everything else I had to say, you clearly missed my point, which does not surprise me so I will try to break it down for you. My point was about people complaining and actually being able to post their complaints (obviously they were in a better position than those who lost everything since they were able to post their complaints) less than 24 hours after Ike and a front came through about PODs not be delivered at a particular time and wanting FREE water and FREE food less than 24 hours after being hit, in areas that were not devastated and when numerous stores were already reopened. It was like FREE water and food was owed to them IMMEDIATELY. If they would have been prepared, they would not have been looking for food and water less than 24 hours after going through Hurricane Ike. If they would have been prepared (i.e., stocked up on food, water, etc. for at least for 3-4 days), the government officials would have had the opportunity to set up the supplies in different locations to help those in need. If they would have been prepared, instead of posting their complaints, if they had anything left to their home, they would have been salvaging what they could and throwing the rest to the side of the street for debris pickup, ripping out sheetrock, ripping out carpet, ripping out cabinets, installing tarps on roofs, clearing debris from the yards, cutting trees and moving them out of the roads clearing the way for responders to help their community, in addition to lending a hand to a neighbor who might need some help. That's what prepared people do. They don't have time to complain and actually post complaints that they are hungry and thirsty less than 24 hours after a hurricane. They should have already had water and non-perishable food on hand. Even if you are dirt poor, you can and will find a way to buy crackers and vienna sausage for at least a week. Now do you understand? As previously mentioned, I live in Florida now and even I was prepared for Hurricane Ike since no one is 100% positive where a hurricane will go once it ends up in the Gulf until about 3 days from landfall, and it can still take a jog to the left or right of the projected path. I still have 10 cases (each case containing 32 bottles of water), non-perishables, 8 5-gallon containers still full of gas, and 2 vehicles with full gas tanks.
One last thing, Fed Up... regarding your comment, "It's so funny how not to long ago citizens from Louisiana were referred to as refugees, now the refugees of Texas have to depend on the citizens of Louisiana to help them out. How does it feel now." Well, believe me when I say Texas residents are not having to DEPEND on the citizens of Louisiana. In fact, many Houstonians are probably originally from Louisiana so they will have family in Louisiana (some of us choose to leave Louisiana to get decent paying jobs and live better lifestyles). Louisiana is NOT the only state sending power co. crews, debris removal crews, and other responders. Also, I recall Houston being one of the main cities welcoming displaced New Orleans residents into their city after Katrina, only to regret the decision later when those displaced folks started fighting with their children in school and increasing crime in their communities. Communities all over have not been the same since the people of New Orleans were disbursed all over. We never heard of crime in the small town I now live in. After Katrina, people shooting and stabbing each other in the mall parking lot or on the streets, robbing banks, cutting into concrete walls to rob a laudry business. Good grief! I am not judging anyone, but everyone knows that although certain parts of New Orleans are fun to visit, they also know that it is crime-ridden. Again, none of my comments were made in judgment of anyone. There just comes a time when people need to take responsibility for themselves.
