Help for Missouri City residents

ELECTRIC OUTAGES
The City of Missouri City continues to contact CenterPoint Energy to respond to power outages in City neighborhoods. Some of the harder hit areas include those on the northeastern part including Texas Parkway, Hunters Glen and Fondren Park and the far south part of the City.
Electrical outages must be reported to CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or visit their Web site at Centerpointenergy.com.

COMPUTERS, POWER STRIPS/PHONES AT CITY HALL FOR RESIDENT USE
Four computer terminals at City Hall, 1522 Texas Parkway, are available for use by residents to access information such as FEMA procedures. There also power strips available for charging cell phones and other electrical devices. Telephones have also been set up for local calls.

NO OUTDOOR BURNING
By order of the Fire Marshal outdoor burning is not allowed. This means no burning of debris and other materials in contained areas such as barrels or barbeque pits. During the recovery period, there remain some critical water utility issues further supporting this prohibition.

DEBRIS PICK-UP
The City of Missouri City's debris pick-up is underway. It involves three separate "sweeps." Pick up "sweeps" in each neighborhood will take place every two to three weeks. If all debris is not picked up during the first "sweep," residents are asked to continue to place remaining debris in the right of way for collection on subsequent runs. There is a debris link map on the County's website, www.fortbendcountynews.info,, providing a map which shows areas that have been completed and instructions for preparing debris. Below are those guidelines and additional information.
Household garbage is to be kept separate from storm debris and will be picked up by the normal solid waste service provider.
For those not living on the Quail Valley golf course, you are requested NOT to put storm debris on golf course.
To prepare for the debris pick-up, here are the guidelines:
The public right-of-way is the area of residential property that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole or easement.
Only debris placed on the public right-of-way will be eligible for collection until further notice. This must be located on either the front slope of the ditch or at the curb.
Do not let the debris block drainage in culverts or curb drains; this could cause street flooding.
Do not place debris near any water meter vault, fire hydrant, or any other above-ground utility or meter. This is to prevent these items from being damaged by the machinery when the debris is collected.
"Vegetation" debris includes woody, burnable items such as limbs, vines, leaves, and shrubbery. These items should be placed at the curb; there is no need for bundling or strapping.
"Construction and demolition" debris includes items such as fencing, sheetrock, and carpet. This will also be picked up at the curb, but must be placed in a stack separate from the vegetation debris.
Bagged leaves will be pickup up by local crews, but MUST not include household trash for the safety of the workers. Make sure the bagged leaves are placed near your debris piles and completely separated from your normal trash collection area.
Household garbage should be kept separate from the hurricane debris, and must be picked up by the normal service provider.
Please do not park your vehicle in front of the debris. If the debris is blocked, it will not be picked up.
If all debris is not picked up during the first "sweep" or pick-up, continue to place remaining debris items on the right-of-way for collection during subsequent pick-up runs.

To dispose of the following items, contact the Debris Management hotline, 281-238-3430, for further instructions. These items will be picked up separately.
Construction and demolition debris
Hazardous household products and tires
Household white-goods (appliances that are properly prepared for pickup)

HOUSEHOLD TRASH - Normal service has resumed. Citizens should separate storm debris from household waste. Keep storm debris from storm drains as this could cause future street flooding. Missouri City partnered with Fort Bend County on a debris management plan. Neighborhoods will be on scheduled pickups over a period of weeks. Full information is below

WATER, ICE, FOOD
A Point of Distribution is in Stafford at Southern Ice Cream Corporation, 13755 Greenland Drive for ice, water, and food.
Ready to eat meals available at Second Mile Ministries. 504 FM 1092 (Murphy Road at Avenue E ) behind Sherwin Williams.
PERMITS - Permits must be obtained before beginning reconstruction work on homes and businesses. The City is waiving fees for 90 days for storm repairs to homes and businesses. See last page for more information.

CURFEW
Curfew in effect is from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. ending at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21. This means that citizens cannot remain or travel upon any public or private property during these hours.
Exceptions include:
•Resident movement on his or her private property or a person who has been invited to that property.
•Those going directly to and from work or going directly to or from a business.

WATER SERVICE ISSUES
Because of water pressure concerns in some areas of the City, all citizens are requested to conserve water. This includes use of dishwashers, washing machines, and washing cars. Please be conservative.

Texas taxpayers who were adversely affected by Hurricane Ike qualify for tax relief from the Internal Revenue Service, including the postponement of tax filing and payment deadlines until Jan. 5, 2009.

Following the hurricane's landfall on Saturday, Sept. 13, the federal government declared the following Texas counties a presidential disaster area qualifying for individual assistance: Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller and Washington.

In addition, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise deposits due on or after Sept. 7 and before Sept. 22, 2008, as long as the deposits are made on or before Sept. 22.

Trash pickup
Waste Management is extending its collection hours to later in the evening. The company is collecting garbage from its residential and commercial customers on a majority of its routes in the Houston metro area.
Residents and businesses should follow these steps to assist in the speedy collection of their garbage:
• Separate household garbage from storm-related debris. This includes placing household garbage in a separate pile from storm debris.
• Do not lean trash or other objects against a garbage can, dumpster or roll-off container.
• Be patient. Collecting this large amount of garbage takes additional time than normal. If drivers do not reach a customer's street on the designated collection day, they will complete those routes the following day.

Hours at each location vary based on area curfews and staff availability. The YMCA plans to reopen more facilities each day as power is restored and damage is repaired at each location. The majority of the YMCA of Greater Houston's facilities were damaged and/or left without power after the storm.

"It is important that individuals and families have a place in their community where they can go to escape the psychological and physical damage that Ike left us with," said YMCA of Greater Houston President and CEO, Clark Baker. "That is why we are working as hard as we can to get all of our facilities open as soon as possible."

The Galveston Family YMCA has been severely damaged. HVAC ventilation units were destroyed and playground equipment is now on the roof. Workers could not enter the facility to fully assess damage; however, the building sustained massive flooding.

The Galveston Family YMCA was recently renovated and dedicated in March, bringing broad services to the island community. It is the oldest YMCA in Texas.

Compass Bank today announced that in the wake of Hurricane Ike it has been able to open a large number of its Houston and East Texas locations. Currently 22 of Compass' Houston area and East Texas branches are open for business. Compass personnel are working quickly to open additional branches and updates will be provided as more branches reopen. Below is a list of branches that are open for business.

On Saturday, Compass announced that it is waiving all non-customer access fees to its ATMs in Houston, East Texas, Central Texas and San Antonio so that residents can gain immediate access to cash to meet their hurricane recovery needs. In addition, the Compass Bank is waiving check cashing fees for all non-customers through-out its Houston area locations. Both waivers apply to all non-customers of Compass Bank, as Compass Bank does not charge its customers ATM access fees or check cashing fees. These waivers do not apply to any fees the customer's bank may charge.

Additionally, all Compass Bank branches in San Antonio and Austin are collecting non-perishable items to aide in the relief effort.

"We are working diligently to help the communities and provide support in any way we can. Those in need of access to their cash, whether they bank with us or not, should turn to our ATMs or visit a branch," said Shelaghmichael Brown, Senior Executive Vice President of Retail Banking. "As a member of the communities impacted by Hurricane Ike, it is important that we be able to serve the needs of everyone as they begin to recover from this storm. Our dedicated employees are working quickly to open branches and provide assistance throughout the area."

The ATM fees and check cashing fees waiver will continue until further notice at all Compass Bank branches and ATM machines in the Houston area, East Texas and Central Texas, including San Antonio. It is important to note that ATMs require electrical power to operate. Further, in East Texas, Compass Bank is branded as BBVA Compass.
For a complete list of all Compass Bank locations and freestanding ATM machines, logon to www.compassbank.com or call 1-800-COMPASS (266-7277).
