A Disaster Recovery Center is open in Houston to provide assistance for those who suffered damage from Hurricane Ike. FEMA said that the DRC site is located at: Harris County The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Residents are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a DRC. Those that want to secure building permits in Missouri City can go to the City's Building Permits Divison Saturday, Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon. The city is waiving the cost of obtaining the permits for storm-related repairs. The issuance of these permits with the fee waiver is effective immediately though Dec. 16. Forms and permit applications may be obtained online on the City's website by going to "Services" and then "Forms." Permits may also be picked up at City Hall, 1522 Texas Parkway. Texas will be providing emergency food stamps to Hurricane Ike victims who qualify and will automatically replace benefits for program participants in the storm's path. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) sought and received a federal waiver to make the emergency assistance available to low-income individuals and families living in any of the 29 counties that have been declared disaster areas.
