Harris County to open six (6) countywide debris drop-off sites beginning Monday, September 22, 2008, to provide residents of Unincorporated Harris County with additional ways to clear debris quickly from their property. For further information, residents of Unincorporated Harris County are urged to call (800) 207-2325 between the hours of 8 AM to 8 PM. . Vegetative debris (branches, limbs, and shrubbery) ONLY will be processed at this site. The following WILL NOT be... City officials are rolling out debris removal guidelines in anticipation of the island-wide re-entry scheduled for 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24th. Residents who weathered Ike's ravages at home, contractors already on the job, and business owners busy cleaning have left mounting stacks of debris piled high on city streets. In order to expedite the clean up and recovery process, the city and its debris management contractors are asking for the full support of all Galvestonians.

HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES DROP-OFF SITES The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is now accepting household batteries (such as AA, AAA, C, and D etc.) at its four neighborhood depositories (see below) as well as the following recycling drop-off sites: Westpark Recycling Center, 5800 Westpark (Mon-Sat. 8-5pm) Center Street Drop-off Site, 3602 Center Street, (open 24/7) Ellington Field Drop-off Site, Highway 3 @ Dixie Farm Road, (open 24/7) SWMD has opened its neighborhood depositories 7 days a week ... The Solid Waste Management Department will proceed with normal garbage and yard trimmings collection operations on Monday, Sept. 22. They will not be picking up recyclable materials, since they are focusing on vegetative storm debris collection. The normal heavy trash schedule has been suspended. DRC, the City of Houston's private storm debris hauler has 272 DRC trucks deployed to debris zones to assist City of Houston crews with storm debris removal. SWMD has opened its neighborhood depositories seven days a week to accommodate small amounts of storm debris from Houston residents. One pickup tru... The boil water advisory has been lifted for all areas of Matagorda County. All of the water systems in the Sargent area have been tested, and the water is safe for regular use. Also, taxpayers impacted by the storm will have until midnight Sept. 22 to meet their tax filing obligations without incurring late filing and payment penalties. This gives residents seven extra days to file the taxes. Residents are also asked to put their debris into four separate piles: 1) Regular household trash - Separate from storm debris. City of Friendswood officials say that approximately 70 percent of the area has electric power and anticipate full power within the next few days. Food supply, they say, is adequate, with groceries and businesses open. Fuel supply is available, but anticipate lines. All Friendswood roadways are open for traffic. FISD and CCISD schools are still closed until further notice. Officials ask residents to make sure that their household trash is bagged as usual. Any green waste that is placed in trash bags should be placed alongside the household trash. Wooded storm debris does not... Waste Management is reporting that there has been a big jump, around 40 percent to 100 percent, in the volume of garbage placed at the curb for collection. The company is collecting garbage from its residential and commercial customers on a majority of its routes in the Houston metro area. League City Land management Fort Bend County is beginning its recovery process in the wake of Hurricane Ike. A Debris Management plan has been enacted to facilitate the removal of debris left by the hurricane. This program consists of three separate "passes" with the first pass beginning Tuesday, September 16. The first pass will be for vegetative materials. The next pass will take place two or three weeks later with the last pass two or three weeks after that. Remaining materials at the curb will be picked up on the second and third passes. The Emergency Management Operations for the City of Conroe has asked the Citizens of Conroe to separate construction debris and move tree debris only to the front of their property and place just behind the curb for pick-up by city Public Works Crews. The City of Conroe public works department is presently picking up tree limbs and trees first. The federal government will reimburse the state of Texas and affected local governments for 100 percent of eligible emergency debris-removal work and emergency protective measures performed for a 14-day period retroactive to Sept. 13, the date of President Bush's major disaster declaration for Hurricane Ike. The reimbursement can be for work undertaken by state and local authorities. It can also cover costs of direct assistance provided by federal agencies if state or local government cannot perform or contract for the work. An attempted scam has been reported by a Missouri City resident relating to debris pick-up. Residents are advised that the debris pick-up service underway is being provided to them as a city service under a partnership with Fort Bend County. As such, residents are not required to pay for the service when a service truck arrives to make the pick-up. It has been reported that a resident was approached and told that the individual had been sent to pick up the debris, who asked for payment. This program consists of three separate "sweeps" with the first sweep expected in Meadows Place on Wednesday or Thursday.
