The USPS says that all of the mail destined to Galveston is securely held in the North Houston Processing and Distribution Center. The mail was untouched by Ike. The USPS is finalizing a temporary location near Galveston Island, probably in Texas City or La Marque, that will be ready to provide mail to Galveston residents by Thursday, Sept. 25. Capital One Bank announced that at least nine of its branches in Houston that had been closed because of Hurricane Ike are scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 16. HISD schools and administrative offices will remain closed though and including Friday. Employees need not report to work unless notified by their supervisor.
