Areas with water service, electricity and with retail stores open to the public are generally considered to be self-sufficient so that a POD is no longer needed. The last two Points of Distribution sites are scheduled to close today, Sunday, September 21, 2008. No other POD locations will be opened. ...As of Sunday afternoon, the midnight to 6 a.m. curfew is still in place in Houston. ...Galveston County facilities located on the island will remain closed through Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Galveston County employees who have been contacted and advised to report to work as the County undertakes a temporary relocation of various County functions to the mainland are required to report to work to assist in the temporary relocation or to provide County services. Harris County to open six (6) countywide debris drop-off sites beginning Monday, September 22, 2008, to provide residents of Unincorporated Harris County with additional ways to clear debris quickly from their property. For further information, residents of Unincorporated Harris County are urged to call (800) 207-2325 between the hours of 8 AM to 8 PM. . The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) will proceed with normal garbage and yard trimmings collection operations on Monday, September 22, 2008. The Curbside Recycling crews are assisting the Yard Trimmings crews with vegetative storm debris collection and, therefore, will not be collecting the recyclable materials from the green bins.
