Because many wastewater plants are still without electricity, there may not be enough power for their sewer lines (lift stations) to push the sewage to the wastewater plants. This may cause sewage to back-up into your home through places like toilets and bathtubs.

Sewage contains germs that can cause illness, including E.coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Hepatitis A, and Shigella. Symptoms from being exposed to sewage may include diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, chills, and vomiting. Seek medical attention right away if you experience any of these symptoms.

Pasadena lifts boil advisory

The City of Pasadena has lifted its boil advisories for all zip codes, including those that were under a mandatory evacuation.

City officials say that residents should take the following precautions before drinking or bathing:

  • Flush your water service line and household plumbing by running each faucet until you notice a change in water temperature, typically no more than 5 minutes.

  • Clean out ice makers by making at least three batches of ice and discarding them.

  • Drain and fill your water heater and any other water you may have stored in tanks.

Bring water to a full boil (it will bubble) and keep it boiling for two minutes. Or add eight drops of non-scented, non-colored chlorine per gallon of water. Wait 30 minutes before using.

As of Friday, Sept. 19, the boil water notice for all customers served by the Harris County WCID #21 water system has been lifted.

Water samples collected for microbiological analysis came back negative for coliform organisms in all areas.

There is relief on the horizon for drinking water here. We received confirmation late yesterday that tests on our source water from the Gulf Coast Water Authority came back good. That means the water entering our system is safe. At this time we are in the field taking our own samples for safety testing at the Galveston County Health District. Houston Mayor Bill White signed a letter addressed to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rescinding the Boil Water Notice for all customers served by the Houston municipal system. Water samples collected for microbiological analysis are confirmed negative for coli form organisms in all areas. Our chemists and laboratory staff perform over 600,000 water quality samples and tests each year.

The City of League City has set up a cooling center and an internet center at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center at 400 W. Walker. It is open to all residents through Friday, September 19 from 8 am to 5 pm.

Transportation is available for the elderly and people with special needs. To arrange transportation call 281-554-1000.

The City of Galveston has suspended water in different areas of the city as of 10 this morning.

The following areas will not have water until further notice:

Water and sewer connections have been turned off to protect the system from salt water contamination. Systems will not become operational until bacterial testing has been completed.

Clarifying Humble water situation

This is to inform those citizens living within the incorporated limits of the City of Humble, there was an error in reporting a problem with a City's water supply. One of the Municipal Utility Districts with an Humble address, MUD #96/Fall Creek, not in our incorporated limits, had the problem earlier in the day.

The City of Humble has a "superior" quality rating and our water is safe to use and drink.

Fifteen percent of the City is operational with electric through Center Point and Texas New Mexico. The Sewer Plant and 4 of the 42 water (well) lift stations have been restored with electric service note: all lift stations are on generators until restored by electric service). The City of Alvin has maintained water service and pressure throughout the duration of Hurricane Ike and through the recovery with the exception of a 10-15 minute loss of pressure from one lift station two days ago.

For those residing in Friendswood and for those wishing to return to their Friendswood homes, please be aware of the following:

-Food supply is short, with dry goods coming in slowly at area grocery stores.
-Fuel is very scarce. Residents who are returning should plan to top off their gas tanks before entering the area.

communities in the Houston region, Sugar Land was very fortunate. Our
impact was mostly confined to widespread power outages and debris,
challenges, but things we feel confident we are able to handle far
better than some of our neighboring cities who fared much worse.

Friendswood power coming back, water safe

Sporadic power is returning to certain areas of Friendswood. However, local utilities are still advising that it may be one to two weeks before all of Friendswood's power is restored.

Emergency responders are currently conducting damage assessments throughout Friendswood. Due to damage from Hurricane Ike, Mayor Smith has extended the curfew for the City of Friendswood from dusk until dawn every day until the city and utility companies can provide safe and effective services. Proper identification will be required to travel within the city during the extended curfew.

The following Boil Water Order has been put into place. There is no reason to believe that the water has been contaminated, but this is merely a precaution since some of Pearland's water comes from Houston.

Effective immediately, the Fondren Road Water Control and Improvement
District has issued a Boil Water notice because the quality of the
drinking water may be unsafe as a result of the power outage caused by
Hurricane Ike.

In Galveston, Water service has been restored to the area surrounding the San Luis Hotel. As a precaution, it will be necessary to use bottled water for human consumption or to boil your water prior to consumption until further notice. Water use is limited to bathing and flushing toilets. Do not allow your pet or animals to drink this water.
