Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds the public that the voter registration deadline for the upcoming November 4, 2008 Presidential Election is Monday, October 6, 2008 as specified by the Texas Election Code. The Tax Office confirmed the October 6th deadline date with the Texas Secretary of State's office on Friday.

"Despite Hurricane Ike, the voter registration deadline for the upcoming November 4th Presidential Election is still October 6th," said Bettencourt. "With the deadline approaching in just two weeks, all citizens need to take the opportunity to get registered to vote otherwise they won't be able to cast a ballot that counts on Election Day," Bettencourt added.

Registered voters in Harris County can check their registration status at www.hcvoter.net, or by giving the Tax Office a call at 713-368-VOTE. Voter registration cards may be picked up at public Libraries, Deputy Voter Registrars and Tax Office locations in the County. A voter registration address in Harris County can be changed through (Texas Online) when updating a driver's license record.
