Two more Houston food stamp offices that have been without power will re-open Sunday to help hurricane victims apply for help.
With the addition of the Scott Street and Greens Parkway offices, there are now five Houston locations where people can apply for disaster food stamps. Low-income families in disaster areas may be eligible for up to two months of emergency food stamp benefits if they meet income and asset requirements. A family of four earning up to $2,915 this month may qualify for assistance. Applicants also will have to answer questions about their bank account balances, household and expenses. People who provide additional documentation may qualify for benefits for a longer period. Hurricane victims also may pick up and drop off applications at Abundant Life Cathedral, 11230 Harwin Drive in Houston. HHSC staff will be available to answer questions and take applications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.
