The Arc of Greater Houston is in urgent need of office space, space to hold programs, and financial assistance to ensure people with disabilities in the greater Houston area continue to receive the essential services they count on each day. Last year, The Arc served over 19,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the greater Houston area.

Some of the countless services the Arc of Greater Houston provides are:

-- Advocacy/Awareness: provide representation at the local, state, and national governmental levels; information and resources for families affected by intellectual or developmental disabilities; and information for the general public on mental retardation and other disabilities.

-- Education/Training: help families and professionals navigate the public school special education system for children ages 3-21; provide educational information about special needs (e.g. fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, autism).

-- Social/Leisure: provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to interact, learn, and enjoy themselves in a safe, fun environment; programs include a weeklong camp during the summer, adventure club, monthly dance, and even trips around the country.

-- Candy Cane Ball: over 1000 individuals with disabilities get the opportunity to attend a free, gala-style event, celebrating the holidays with friends and peers.

To provide assistance to the Arc of Greater Houston or for more information, contact Judy Kantorczyk, Executive Director, at 713-957-1600 or jkantorczyk@thearcofgreaterhouston.com.

Individuals with disabilities needing assistance should also use the same phone number or visit the Arc website at www.thearcofgreaterhouston.com for essential resources.
