Precinct 2 and Precinct 3 Justice and Service Centers now have power and will be open and ready for general business on Tuesday September 23rd.

Due to a required briefing at the Office of Emergency Management on Tuesday, September 23rd, Commissioners Court will begin at 1:45 p.m. tomorrow instead of 1:00 at the request of Judge Bob Hebert.

Power Outages
At noon, the reported outages in Fort Bend County were 17,200 customers or 8.8%. The CenterPoint crews are now working with Fort Bend County Debris Management in a cooperative effort to address power-lines downed by trees. CenterPoint crews will trim the trees and repair the lines. The homeowners need to pull the trees to the curb so that Fort Bend County can pick up the limbs from the right-of-way.

POD
The Stafford POD will be open again on Tuesday, September 23rd. They will distribute water, ice and food. Mayor Scarcella estimated that the site had 75,000 visits since they opened on Monday September 15th.

Debris
In the first 6 days of the debris management program it is estimated that over 70,000 cubic yards has been picked up by Fort Bend County and the contractor. However, this is less than 10% of the debris generated by the storm. 110 contractor crews and 12 county crews, augmented by municipal crews where available, are actively removing debris today.

The State has agreed to our request to have Fort Bend County pick up storm debris along State Highway and Farm-to-market roads with the exception of Highway 59 and Interstate 10. Typically this responsibility is performed by the Texas Department of Transportation, however they indicated it would be at least another month before they could take any action so County crews will pickup as they sweep the County.

Mosquito Control
The County is requesting aerial spraying for mosquito control. The hurricane winds brought in salt-water mosquitoes from the Coast. Typically these mosquitoes do not carry disease, however the County is continuing to trap and test to ensure there are no health issues. The County is currently making the rounds spraying from the road, but feels it is necessary to implement the aerial spray as well.

Blue Roof Program
FEMA has now designated a location in Fort Bend County. The Blue Roof program is a U.S. Army Corp of Engineers program to provide temporary covering in a designated disaster area. To qualify a home must have LESS than 50% damage and be structurally sound for a crew to work on. You must go to a designated Right-of-Entry Collection Center to in order to qualify for assistance.
