The Postal Service announced Tuesday that it has established a temporary mail pickup location in La Marque for residential and business customers served by the Galveston Main Post Office and Bob Lyons Station on Galveston Island.

Located at 14057 Delaney Road in La Marque, the temporary location will begin operations on Wednesday, September 24. The temporary site will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Saturday. The site will also have Post Office Box mail available for customers normally served at the Galveston Main Post Office.

The temporary site is located near IH-45 at the Delaney Road Exit (take Exit 13 and turn right from either direction) in the Gulfway Plaza at La Marque shopping center.

Current estimates call for the Gulfway Plaza site to operate for several weeks, at which time all operations will move back into Galveston.

Service for Post Office Box customers will resume onsite at Bob Lyons Station at 5826 Broadway in Galveston on September 24. Repairs to the building, which was heavily damaged, are ongoing and estimated to be completed within five months.

The Galveston Main Post Office at 601 Rosenberg, which provides retail services and serves Post Office Box customers, sustained flood damage and will remain closed for an undetermined time.

Mail delivery operations will resume as soon as possible, provided that roadways are accessible, conditions are safe for letter carriers, postal customers have returned, and mail receptacles are available.

If customers have permanently relocated or will be at a temporary location for an extended time, the Postal Service will forward your mail to the new address if you submit a change of address form. Customers may file a Change of Address (COA) on line at usps.com, at the nearest Post Office or by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777). COA cards are being made available to shelters.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law stayed through Hurricane Ike. I have found out finally that they did make it and evacuated around September 15-17. I have no idea where they are and I'm sure they don't have our address. Their nephews and niece are worried about them. If anybody has any information on John M. Mann and Mary E. Mann. Please have them get in touch with Anita at my e-mail address or 317-724-4205, or let me know how I can reach them. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Thank You,
Anita (Mann) Anthony
