HISD is wasting food! I have heard from employees at school campuses that are throwing out crates of apples-oranges-and bananas--FRUIT that is non-perishable and can be used by the public. They are not only throwing it out they are putting the 18-wheeler shipments they received in the trash and then pouring BLEACH on it so no one will get it. I can understand the perishable food items like dairy and meat being destroyed but FRUIT that does not rot-- and going the extra steps and pouring bleach on them!!! What kind of world is this? They are in a federal program - yes we know that they are told to throw out food but this is ridiculous that they waste at this level and when the city is in such need.
