The US Army Corps of Engineers provides a free temporary roof to residential structures through its Blue Roof Program. Citizens need to show up at sites set up across the city to sign up for the program. Initial sites include the following Library locations, which will be open through Friday, September 26, 2008 from 8 AM to 7 PM: -- Central Library, 500 McKinney, 77002, 832-393-1313 -- Clayton Library, Center for Genealogical Research, 5300 Caroline, 77004, 832-393-2600 -- Kendall Neighborhood Library, 14330 Memorial Drive, 77079, 832-393-1880 -- McGovern-Stella Link Neighborhood Library, 7405 Stella Link, 77025, 832-393-2630 Open through Friday, September 26, 2008 The following Library locations will be open through Friday, September 26 from 10 AM to 7 PM, unless otherwise stated: -- Acres Homes Neighborhood Library, 8501 West Montgomery, 77088, 832-393-1700 ** OPENS on Tuesday, September 23 -- Bracewell Neighborhood Library, 10115 Kleckley, 77075, 832-393-2580 -- Carnegie Neighborhood Library, 1050 Quitman, 77009, 832-393-1720 -- HPL Express Discovery Green, located in Discovery Green Park (downtown, across the street from the George R. Brown Convention Center), 1300 McKinney, R2, 77010, 832-393-2660 -- HPL Express Southwest, located in the Southwest Multi Service Center, 6400 High Star, 77074, 832-393-2660 -- Julia Ideson Building (JIB), 500 McKinney, 77002, 832-393-1313 ** OPEN 9 AM to 6 PM -- Robinson-Westchase Neighborhood Library, 3223 Wilcrest, 77042, 832-393-2011 -- Scenic Woods Regional Library, 10677 Homestead Rd, 77016, 832-393-2030 ** OPENS on Tuesday, September 23 -- Stanaker Neighborhood Library, 611 S/Sgt. Macario Garcia, 77011, 832-393-2080 In addition to these library locations, HPL Mobile Express, the Houston Public Library's "computer lab on wheels," will be located in the parking lot of several neighborhood libraries. Staff will be available to assist residents who need help with filing online FEMA applications. The Houston Public Library is very grateful to Verizon Wireless for providing Wireless BroadbandAccess air cards to support the critical community services provided by HPL Mobile Express. In addition, Verizon Wireless provided 25 cell phones for use by customers at the HPL Mobile Express locations and the Community Access Locations (listed below). --HPL Mobile Express will be at these locations, 10 AM to 7 PM: |
