Duggars up the ante to 19 kids (and counting)

duggars1.jpgSo ... You guys know the Duggars? That family in Arkansas with fourteen million kids who are always sweet and smiling and wholesome and dressing alike?

Well, they're gonna have another, according to People magazine.

Yeah. In case you left your abacus at home today, that makes 19 kids. Pretty sure that is my worst nightmare realized.

I don't even think I could keep 19 mail-order sea monkeys alive, if I'm being honest.

ANYWAY, Jim Bob and Michelle of the fruitful uterus say they're stoked to have a 19th (every time I type that, I die a little inside) child in their chorus line ... err ... brood.

"We are so thrilled," Michelle, 42, told People. "We just couldn't believe this was happening."

Jim Bob, 44, concurs.

"This never gets old," he told People. "We are so grateful for each child. We are looking forward to our first grandbaby and our 19th child."

*** cue the record scratch***

I forgot to mention the grandbaby part.

Their newly married oldest kid, Joshua, and his wife are expecting a daughter in October.

So their first grandchild will be older than her aunt or uncle.

There's a little bit of "I'm My Own Grandpa" going on there, huh?

Oh well. There's nothing like bonding with your mother-in-law over a jar of pickles.

"I'm feeling nauseous right now," Michelle told People. "And, I'm tired. I am happy for the feelings of morning sickness and I'm happy for every day I get to play with my kids. We don't know what tomorrow holds and so I try to enjoy every moment."

That statement is worthy of an instant replay:

She wants to puke and take a nap, she has eight billion children in a crowded house, she lives in Arkansas AND she's excited about it. All of it.

Somebody give this woman a medal. She's making me look bad.

Congrats, Duggars!!!

I'm going to puke. These media whores addicted to have multiple kids to make money off of them. If the Duggars are such Bible thumpers, then why don't they adopt handicapped children? Huh, huh? Because handicapped kids don't get a lot of air time, ie. Mommy and Daddy sex/baby addicts don't get more cash.

One more note: If Kate Gosselin appears on your cover one more time, I'm not renewing my 5-year subscription. That chick needs to be arrested for child abuse.

Having your 19th baby at age 42 sounds like my worst nightmare.

It is a blessing to have a baby, no matter how many. Rhonda, it sounds like you are lacking in faith and abounding in rudeness!!!

WOW!!!! God has blessed this family!!! I don't know how they could afford something like this even if people were helping them!!! Kudos to them for being great people and having the strength to go on. i would be exhausted!!!

God Bless 'em! The 2 we have drive us crazy! I can't imagine 19!

Wow, Rhonda, I think maybe (just maybe) you need to relax a little. Yikes! But, seriously, somebody needs to explain to the Duggars just how easy it is to get pregnant right after you have a baby. They don't want to use contraceptives? Okay, fine. But have the decency to at least abstain for a few months after popping a kid out!

It's all good. The Duggars have chosen not to use birth control so children come when they come. That's their choice. Anyone who wants to get into real estate rentals, diversify their income stream, buy second hand and save the rest can adopt all the kids they can afford and fulfill that dream...if it's their choice.

The Duggars do charity work to help others. They don't ask for help from the government or anyone else, their kids are home schooled AND they pay taxes including taxes for education.

Having 19 children isn't for me but it is for them. What I like about the Duggars is early on they created a vision and mission for their family and they live their mission and vision. Their show reflects a positive, well working family and it works for them.

In the ice storm episode I was particularly taken by Jim-Bob's comment about how his children were watching their parents reaction to the damage created by the ice storm. It was important to Michelle and Jim-Bob to react positively and constructively. He walked outside saw the downed tree that caused the power outage and said, "Well, we're going to have a lot of firewood this winter." He then began getting friends and family together to fix the problem. Our children would be happier and healthier if we all took on a little more responsibility for how we acted and reacted in front of our kids so they could see how to solve a problem rather than just complain about it.

My religious and political beliefs are very, very different from the Duggar's but I honor their integrity. I'm actually envious of how devoted they are to their family and their life.

Finally I offer this:
To most of the world who complains day in and day out, whose level of integrity is diminished at best I ask, "How's that workin' for ya?"

Having 19 children is huge responsibility, one that I would never want! That being said, Michelle and Jim Bob are doing an excellent job raising their children. If the Duggars had only 2, 5, 8 or even 10 children, knowing what we know, few could argue that they are amazing parents and we probably would not be questioning their judgement. It is the size of their family that seems strange ...but they make it work.

Jim Bob and Michelle seem fully committed to their family and are involved in so much of their lives. They also semm prepared emotionally, physically and financially for another child.

I applaud the Duggars! Their parenting style may seem strange, their kids may seem sheltered but regardless, their children are well rounded, healthy, understand responsibility, and seem very happy.

Just wondered if anyone has ever taken the older kids aside in private and asked them how they really liked being responsible for their younger siblings day in and day out, how they all liked having to dress like each other, how College is not encouraged, not having friends in the 'outside' world, not being able to do fun things with good friends such as going to a movie, a dance, bowling etc. You can't tell me that the older teens think that this is wonderful. The kids are nothing more than robots who have been brainwashed. Somehow I can't see teens saying, "Yeah I hope my parents keep having more kids so I can look after them." The Duggars are media whores also. Why can they not just live their lives in private? Oh I forgot - money talks! Why is Discovery glorifying this family? They haven't done anything special other than to pump out more kids for the older kids to look after.

As they say, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't."
