The World Series certainly has a Houston connection!

I sure wish the Astros were playing in the World Series. That was an enjoyable time in Houston even though the local team was swept by the White Sox a few years back. It may take some extended time to get back to that frenzy but it could come quicker if the Astros can some how add Jake Peavy. It's all about pitching!

So now we sit home again watching other cities celebrate the great American past time. But for all of you baseball fans wishing the home grown talent was playing, you're in luck. There are several connections from the Phillies and the Rays in this year's classic.

Both Brad Lidge and Eric Bruntlett cut their teeth in the Astros organization. They have been big parts of the Astros success in the past and now are sitting on the Phillies magic carpet ride and making unbelievable contributions.

The Rays are blossoming under the watchful eye of former Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker. He is witnessing incredible things with his young club and like all of us, marvels at what Tampa's kids are doing. We have watched outfielder Carl Crawford grow up over at Davis High School and man, has he turned out to be something special. And get this, Scott Kazmir is the starting pitcher for the Rays in game one. The little lefty is a load. Coming out of Cy Falls then playing with the select team the Houston Heat, he has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the game.

I may have missed someone in the series from here but you get the picture. The Houston ties are BIG and BOLD. I'll be watching and cheering for those who have left their imprint on the Bayou City..
