| Ike left its toll on Astros and Texans, but Schaub is fine »
The local pro football team was supposed to show how much they have improved. Coming off their 8-8 season, the Texans were hoping to go to Pittsburgh for the opener and make a statement. They made a statement alright. They showed everyone they are not ready to compete with the big boys. The Steelers are special and the Texans are not and that is why the game and score was so lopsided.
I was watching very closely at the way the Steelers played defensively. They have the reputation of being very aggressive, but I noticed how disciplined they were. A great defense doesn't get caught out of position. They know their gap responsibilities and learn to trust each other. It was a clinic to see how fast they played, how hard they hit and how they covered for each other. In fact, the first turnover was a phenomenal play. LaMarr Woodley stayed on the line to check the back, recognized the route and ran to the flat to make the one handed pick. It surprised Schaub and Kubiak. They were mystified on how he got underneath the route. The two were on the sidelines looking at pictures wondering how that happened and it was a big play because the Steelers scored their third touchdown after that turnover. Then, they never looked back. Texans fans need to understand their team opened on the road against arguably the best group in football. I've been talking about their defense but their offense can be just as dominating with Big Ben, Willie Parker, Hines Ward and others. So don't throw them in the trash, just dream about someday having a group like the Steelers to cheer for. It's getting closer but as you saw, it's not there yet. Bring on Baltimore for the home opener. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |
