No more "Pacman" but what are the Cowboys doing?

There is a love affair going on up highway 45 in Big "D". The Cowboys took a flyer on Adam "Pacman" Jones and in two days of offseason workouts, they think the sun rises and sets on the guy. Jones is one talented player with absolutely no brain in his head. He was a number one draft choice of the Tennessee Titans back in 2005 and since that time has had more legal problems than Britney Spears. He's been arrested six times and been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention including sitting out the entire 2007 after being linked to a shooting at a Las Vegas strip club. Now he's looking for a new start and his current mentor, Deion Sanders wants him to drop the "Pacman" nickname and I don't blame him. That is a tarnished image.

pacman2.JPGJones has been working out with the man known for nicknames. Call Sanders "Primetime" or "Neon Deion", he knows about being in the limelight and he is trying to get this kid headed in the right direction. He loves the fact the cornerback is wearing his number 21 jersey. Sanders can see in Jones what head coach Wade Phillips can see, what owner Jerry Jones can see and what third string quarterback Richard Bartel can see. Adam Jones can play at a very high level. In two days of off season workouts, he has intercepted two passes that would have been returned for touchdowns. Bartel can't be too happy about Jones jumping his tosses but everyone else is.

Jones has not been cleared by the league to play in games yet but he can practice and play in the pre-season. I love the way new commissioner Roger Goodell is handling this situation. He called him into his offices in New York and although we don't know exactly what was said, you better believe the Commish laid down the law. It appears Jones is on some kind of probation, with Goodell probably saying to him, any missteps son and you are out of the league forever but if you can make it through the next few months doing the right things, you'll get another chance or something like that.

The Cowboys are hoping Adam Jones will keep his life free of embarrassing situations and will get another nickname. He has the skills to be tagged "dominator" or "big play" or even "bowler" as in Pro Bowl. If he does, Jerry Jones hits the jackpot and the player with the same last name he has could be just what the Cowboys need to be in the Super Bowl. Ultimately, putting Jones on the back of a Cowboys jersey next year is a gamble worth taking and you know the owner would love it.

Give it a rest Gifford,

What is your hang up with the cowboys? Between you and the Houston Comical's John McClain, I don't know who is worse.

John McClain is still infatuated with Bud Adams and the tennessee titans and you with the cowboys. Are you required to speak of the cowboys as an employee of Belo?

I lived in dallas for several years and there was little or NO talk of the then Oilers and I lived there during their SuperBowl push. So, do us Texans fans a favor, return the favor to cowboy fans in Houston....HOUSTON....HOUSTON, not San Antonio or anywhere else....make them go to the website they need to get info or to blog.

And as far as referring to dallas as "bid d"...give that a rest too...that is an antiquated nickname that really never applied to that city. dallas is not even the second largest city in the state, if you didn't know, San Antonio surpassed it. Furthermore, other being a cute nickname, "Big" should only be applied to a city that is the only largest in its state...such as Denver, Phoenix, Seattle etc., not dallas.

And to boot, let me remind you what the witch of a mayor, who was in office at the time of Katrina said...when asked if dallas would accept Houstonians fleeing a hurricane, she said the state could not make dallas accept anyone...So, screw them!
