I don't know about where you are working or what you are doing but at KHOU, it's co workers coming and going during these summer months. I'm out of here for the next couple of weeks for a little fun and relaxation. I never know what I'm going to face when I return other than 1000 emails and a mountain of mail to answer. That is standard but here are seven things I hope to see when I get back. ...
Click here for KHOU.com's Draft Central How would you have liked to have been a fly on the wall when the doctor told Tiger Woods the preferred treatment for a stress fracture in his left knee was three weeks on crutches and three weeks of inactivity. The news coming just prior to the U. S. Open on the course he grew up playing. There was no way he wasn't going to participate at Torrey Pines with all the history of that track in his early years. And so Tiger looked at the doctor and in the presence of his swing coach Hank Haney said "I'm playing in the U.S. Open, and I'm going to win." ...The funniest thing happened today in our home. Everyone was watching Tiger and Rocco matching shot for shot looking for a chance to win the U.S. Open Golf Championship. Tiger looked like the Incredible Hulk and focused like an eagle looking for prey. Rocco, on the other hand, was having the time of his life. He was not looking like the Incredible Hulk, but was smiling and making interesting facial expressions. We were like everyone else thinking Tiger was going to win but rooting for The Rock Man to hang in there and make it interesting. Boy, did he ever do that! ...It's been a good day in the office. I was in around 2:30 just in time to catch the Astros playing their final game with the Brewers. It was also the first round of the U.S. Open out on a beautiful course in Southern California, Torrey Pines. I am often asked what my day is like and this is one every sports fan covets. ...
Everyone was on the edge of their seats yesterday afternoon waiting to see what the players looked like after a team meeting. The Astros have been playing mediocre baseball and management was ticked off. So the players were about to get an ear full and from what we understand, there was no doubting the theme of the setting. ...When the alarm clock went off at 4:30am, I thought I was nuts but yet so excited. I was going fishing down in the Texas Gulf Coast, Matagorda Bay on the east side to be exact and I was ready. My wife has a hard time understanding why I do these kind of activities, not because of being out in nature, she likes me doing that, but questions why I would get up so early. It's just one of those things that is hard to explain unless it's in your blood. I think it should be requried for everyone. ...We're getting ready to begin "The Finals". As the NBA season comes to a close it's the best four out of seven for the right to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy. This year as we conclude the playoffs, the two top franchises in the history of the league facing each other. The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers have won an amazing 30 titles between them: Boston 16, Los Angeles 14. ...There is a love affair going on up highway 45 in Big "D". The Cowboys took a flyer on Adam "Pacman" Jones and in two days of offseason workouts, they think the sun rises and sets on the guy. Jones is one talented player with absolutely no brain in his head. He was a number one draft choice of the Tennessee Titans back in 2005 and since that time has had more legal problems than Britney Spears. He's been arrested six times and been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention including sitting out the entire 2007 after being linked to a shooting at a Las Vegas strip club. Now he's looking for a new st... If you know a soldier, go up and shake his hand. Tell him thank you for putting it on the line to protect our freedom. I'm not talking just about today's military personnel; I'm referring to anyone who has ever served our great country. We just finished "Impact a Hero Weekend" here in Houston and I'm always a different person after rubbing shoulders with those who have performed in conflicts to make our world a safer place to live. ... |
