Astros are Giant killers

The splash said it all! It used to be kayak city out in San Francisco during baseball games. Barry Bonds would hit bombs into McCovey Cove and then the battle would begin as fans would try to retrieve the baseball. Sometimes it got down right intense with paddles pounding the water to get the souvenir. Today was a totally different story but was so significant to the conclusion of the Astros trip to Northern California.

It was a quick turn around for the Astros out in the Bay Area. After winning late on Wednesday night, the club was back at it on Thursday afternoon trying to win their first series against the Giants since they moved to AT&T Park.

Things didn't look good as they fell behind 6-nothing after three but in the eighth inning, manager Cecil Cooper continued calling the right shots as he sent Darin Erstad to the plate. With two on, the left handed hitter smacked his first ever pinch hit homerun deep to right to tie the game. That set up the drama.

We've been talking about how unbelieveable Lance Berkman has been playing. Guess what happens when he grabs his bat in the ninth? Giants reliever Vinnie Chulk tried to fool him and it cost him. A change up, right over the middle of the plate and Sir Lance hurt the ball on this swing. He hit it so hard, the baseball was screaming when it left the bat and it didn't stop until it splashed in the ocean. It was a shot Bonds would have admired. Co workers here at the station let out a cheer. However, there was not one kayak around when it hit the water. The fishing hasn't been too good for Giants fans lately. The ball was by itself as the Astros were waiting to greet Berkman in the dugout.

Another Astros win. 8 to 7 the final. 6-1 so far on the road trip heading the Arlington to play the Rangers this weekend. 2nd place in the National League Central. The last time the Astros came back from being down by six runs was back in 2000. Can you believe this? Dodging LA in the first series, slaying the Giants this series, hoping to round up the Rangers in the next series. This is good stuff!
