March 2009 Archives We're back on the border after a two day trip to cover Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit. Her visit was seen by many in Mexico as building a foundation for a more honest, cooperative working relationship between the neighboring nations. The Secretary of State continues her two day trip with a stop in Monterrey, Mexico's business capital. Secretary Clinton delivers a speech at TecMileno which which will webcast the event live at 2pm CDT. ...Spring Break, Saint Patrick"s Day and Cancun. It sounds like a dangerous mix for the thousands of college students who converge in this city every year. But I checked the "tourist" jail and hospital in the hotel zone and there are no U.S. citizens in either this morning. We're here. We made it after several flight delays. It was a full flight packed with Americans including college students and families with young children. ...The last blog struck quite a nerve with many of you fearful about the possible risks and others afraid it's all overblown by media. Let's keep the conversation going. ...I'm working on a story right now about travel safety. We've covered so much drug violence, it's no wonder people are worried about traveling to Mexico. But the beach is not the border and there are plenty of places that are not risky. ...It's hard for to believe it's been 20 years since UT junior and pre-med. student Mark Kilroy was murdered by a narco satanic cult while on Spring break. Since then we've seen an explosion in drug violence in Mexico and the rise of dark religions favored by some drug traffickers. ... |
