Poorer Ken Lay gets free testimony from expert

Texas Christian University Finance Professor Christopher Barry testified he waived his normal $600 an hour fee because he thinks Ken Lay needs the help.

Barry is a professor of finance and a financial economics expert at Texas Christian University in Dallas.

The professor said he usually charges $600 an hour for expert testimony but not this time.

BARRY: Mr. Lay's financial circumstances are different from what they once were.

Barry insinuated that Lay, who has spent millions on his defense, does not need the added burden of another bill. Ken Lay testified last month that his net worth was negative $250,000. It once reportedly reached $400-million.

The professor said he discussed waiving his expensive fee with his wife, too.

BARRY: I believe what I have to say is right and true.

He is the latest expert witness to take the stand Thursday morning.
