Hurry up and wait!

You've likely heard the phrase 'hurry up and wait;' perhaps at an airport anticipating a delayed flight. Soldiers awaiting battle know the words well. With little to do as the jury deliberates on this, the 60th day of the Enron trial, the phrase applies here, too.

Jurors began their fifth day of deliberations in the fraud and conspiracy trial of Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling at Houston's federal courthouse Wednesday morning.

Over the last four days, they have spent more than 24 hours together discussing the case.

The eight women and four men agreed to meet from eight until four Monday through Thursday.

Jurors decided yesterday they would not meet this Friday or next Monday, Memorial Day, indicating that deliberations will most likely go into next week.

Attorneys for each side are supposed to be present in the courtroom during deliberations in case the jury has a question. Wednesday morning, lead defense attorneys Mike Ramsey and Daniel Petrocelli representing both of Enron's former CEOs, showed up. They're talking to each other at the end of a table in an empty courtroom. Like the rest of us, they can only hurry up and wait for the jury's verdict.
