Fire destroys 3 Freeport businesses

A big fire in downtown Freeport left three businesses in ruins.

The fire started at a jewelry store and spread to nearby clothing and electronic stores.

Five area fire departments responded to the blaze but they weren't able to save the businesses.

One firefighter was injured and taken to an area hospital.

The fire broke out around 10 a.m.

Fire crews were still putting out hot spots a couple of hours later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
