Katy ISD hit with TRO for Valentine's Day
A judge of the 133rd Harris County District Court granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Katy Independent School District Monday afternoon, according to the Harris County courts.
"We are very pleased with the judge's decision to uphold the Constitution
and grant the students the right to express their religious beliefs without
discrimination," said Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel for Liberty Legal
Institute. "A TRO is a severe remedy, but unfortunately it was necessary because of the extreme violations by the district."
The TRO was filed to ensure that the students could hand out religious-themed gifts to friends at the Valentine's Day party. The TRO coincided with a lawsuit, Pounds vs. Katy ISD, filed against the district which claims years religious censorship against students.
