Sugar Land Prepares for Hurricane Rita
The City of Sugar Land will cease normal business operations at noon on Thursday, Sept. 22 to initiate emergency preparation for Hurricane Rita.
The City of Sugar Land will cease normal business operations at noon on Thursday, Sept. 22 to initiate emergency preparation for Hurricane Rita. Public safety and other essential city services will continue.
“I’m telling City employees to batten down the hatches for City facilities and services,” said City Manager Allen Bogard. “We also want essential City employees to have time to secure their families so they can concentrate their efforts on storm recovery.”
Sugar Land’s District 2 Town Hall meeting, scheduled for tonight, has been cancelled.
“We encourage residents to leave if they have a place to go,” said Bogard. “However, as hotel space is virtually unavailable throughout the metropolitan area, we want residents to have a final destination plan if they do leave.”
Bogard strongly asks residents to prepare for extreme weather conditions and he reminds residents to help others if they are able.
