Me and singer/songwriter Owen Plant
Me and Owen Plant have a "trippy" connection...
If you just saw the story on the news about singer/songwriter Owen Plant
Click to watch video
You're probably wondering what the relationship between him and I is... well... get this...
We were both born in Jamaica!!!!!
Oh it gets better...
We both went to Junior High together in Jamaica!!!!!
I've been friends with him since I was 10 years old!!!!
Though it's been 9 years since I last saw him... he called and said he was gonna be driving through Houston and we should hook up.
Small world huh?
Owen is one heck of an artist. He's actually a recovering drug addict and alcoholic whose been clean and sober for 10 years. He's been through a lot of shiznet and you can hear it in his music. It's deep and profound and moving and hopeful and soulful and catchy.
I'm so proud of him.
Check out his myspace:

And his webpage:

He's got 3 CD's out... They're awesome!!!!

There are also better reporters out there to cover them.

THINK THAT IT IS REALLY COOL THAT YOU HAVE RECONNECTED WITH YOUR CHILDHOOD FREIND. ALSO I'M PROUD OF HIM FOR STAYING CLEAN FOR SO LONG, BECAUSE I HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT WAS ONCE ON DRUGS AND IS ALSO DURING WELL. SO TELL HIM TO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. OH I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN THAT YOU WERE FROM JAMAICA I ONCE DATED A GUY THAT WAS FROM THERE. SO YOU GUYS STAY COOL AND HAVE FUN AND YOU KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING IT IS REALLY NICE TO LAUGH IN THE MORNINGS.

Johnathan,
Thank you so much for doing this story. My favorite artist is James Taylor. Your friend sound so much like him. I will buy one of his cds. As for the man who had the negative coment, why is he on your blog? I thank you for doing what you do. Keep up the great work. Thank you for doing the segment at Tops Breast Center. That was great.
Thank you again,
Monica

Johnathan,
This life is not about correcting grammatical errors but it should be about reaching out to those who have and are overcoming life situations. Thank you for exposing your friend's music and your connection to those of us who would not have had the opportunity.

Hi Johnathan, Thanks for highlighting Owen this morning. My husband and I both enjoyed hearing his music. While he does sound a little like James Taylor, we both heard a little of Cat Stevens styling in him also.
It's also great to hear his testimony of staying clean and sober for 10 years now! Great job! Stories like these give a glimmer of hope for others. Keep up the good work.
And as to the grammar, you have literary license. It's an artistic "thing" and a grammar nazi just won't get it. Alas, alas.

Hi Jonathan,
I saw Owen on T.V. this morning and couldn't wait to find out what the connection between the two of you was. I am "very proud" of (you) Jonathan for not being ashamed of your friend. I am also very happy to read that he has stayed clean for so long now!! God Bless him with much more WILL POWER!!
Have a great day Jonathan!!

A great and very funny interview with Owen Plant. He has a wonderful voice and his website has a lot of information on him. A lot of style and meaning in his music. Thanks for having him on your show.

Johnathan:
Hey, I love that you did the music story on an old friend. I only heard about it because I'm a Houston native, and when I saw someone from the Houston area had bought one of my CDs from cdbaby (yep, I'm a musician too, with 2 albums on cdbaby.com), I checked out her comments. She had browsed over to cdbaby just because of your story on Owen. I guess she just decided to do some extra shopping while she was there. So, hey, thanks for the sale! And thanks to Dorothy from Missouri City (the buyer) too! www.keithnorris.com

A friend of mine gave me this link and I was amazed to see Owen Plant on TV. I'm from Boston and I've seen him play downtown a few times, and I've bought quite a few of his cd's. Hopefully more people will catch on to his music.

Jonathan:
I normally don't do this sort of thing, being of the"older" generation but I had to put my 2 cents in. Which school did you & Owen go to? I'm from Jamaica too and know Owen's family. I went to school at Alpha with 2 of his cousins & his aunt taught me there. This is a small world!! I commend you.

Hey there you Jamaicans! I am also Jamaican. I met Owen while going to Berklee College in Boston. He's Craaaaayzeee...and sooo cool! I actually used to sing and arrange background vocals for him and Fez when they were 'Shake Senora'! It's good to see him doing his thing!
