Ever thought "there oughta be a law" to protect animals? Enter the contest and submit your idea for a federal bill to help animals!

The Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) knows some of the best ideas for legislation come from "citizen legislators" who are animal-lovers like you, so they're asking for your input for a new federal bill to help animals. Your concept could become the winning entry in the HSLF's first-ever "There Oughta Be a Law" contest!

HSLF is convening a blue-ribbon panel of experts to judge the entries on their merit and viability for passage into a new federal law. HSLF will announce the winner at the next Party Animals--their nationwide, house party event--on October 25. Join the party and you will be the first to know the first-ever winner!

The winner will receive a trip to Washington, DC, to lobby with the HSLF staff in support of their proposed bill and meet with the president of HSLF, Mike Markarian.

The contest ends at midnight EDT on October 5, 2009. Review the rules for submissions.

There ought to be a law alright...
Against making more federal laws, especially this type!

No thank you. I am tired of the Federal Wolves in sheeps clothing proposals. Take for example Senator Conrad Burn - MT. His deception has lead many a horse to the Slaughter house. They can take their blue ribbon panel down the road.

See Clifford's and Cyhthia's comments. Ditto.

I agree with Clifford and Cynthia. Seems to me that we have too many laws being put in place taking away the rights of animal owners who happen to care very much about thier animals. By limiting what the animals can and can't do, you take away from the animal itself sometimes. remember that the road to hell is paved with good intentions and over legislation.

What about animals with no owners? Texas has NO puppy mill laws. NONE. We adopted a puppy mill stud that had been abandoned at about 9 yrs. old. He was traumatized, and had never been outside of a cage. There should be strict puppy mill laws in Texas. As Ghandi said: ““The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” That is so very true.
