American wild horses are in serious danger. The BLM has scheduled another mustang round up to begin September 1 in the Pryor Mountains of Montana.
The Pryor Mountain wild horses in Montana are the descendents of the horses brought to the Americas with the Spanish Conquistadors in 1500. One horse in particular, Cloud, and his family are perhaps the most famous wild horses in the world - having been the subject of fascinating documentaries and books. But their fame is not going to protect the herd from a drastic government round up planned to begin September 1. Only 190 horses (one year and older) remain of the herd led by the much-celebrated and near-mythical wild mustang stallion of the Pryor Mountains. An estimated 150 - 200 adult horses are needed to ensure the long-term survival of the herd. This round up strikes at the heart of America's grandeur and heroic adventure. Wild horses remain fixed in people's minds as an emblem of true freedom. The removed horses will be placed in jeopardy. Any horses over 10 years of age can be bought directly by killer buyers and transported to slaughterhouses in Canada or Mexico. Younger horses not adopted would be put into government holding with 33,000 others who the BLM have removed from the wild. The BLM proposes killing the healthy wild horses as a solution to the rising cost of keeping horses in long-and short-term pens. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |
I really think the government has better things to do than to mess with the wild horses. I really wish the government would really take care the things that need taking care of like health care and the economy and leave things alone that do not concern them
I agree with Becky. Why doesn't the government worry about taking care of PEOPLE and not killing innocent animals who have been living here since long before most of the whippersnappers in government were born? This sucks.
Ugh! Why are they still doing this? It's not as if the horses are there in such massive numbers that they're hurting anything. Leave the poor creatures be! How about we round up over-populated HUMANS instead. We're doing a lot more damage to the world! >-p
Yes, they need to stop this insanity and leave those horses alone. They aren't hurting anyone or anything. Besides, the BLM already has too many horses in their care that they don't know what to do with! LET THEM BE FREE TO ROAM THEIR LANDS! It would cost much less to do birth control if they are concerned about the population and also be much better for the horses than to round them up and keep them in corrals, stables, pens, etc. because they can't find them homes or have a place for them. FREEDOM FOR THE WOLD HORSE!!!!
