Things are looking up! Last Saturday we broke another record for single day adoptions at BARC with the WAGS TO WHISKERS Adoption Event: 58 ANIMALS ADOPTED, 9 FOSTERED AND 1 RESCUED!
Thanks to everyone who came to BARC and gave a dog or cat a second chance, plus all the employees and volunteers who helped make the day a success. Additional thanks to Lucy Noland at KHOU-TV for making a special effort to get our STARZ on TV! Good things are happening at BARC and we hope you will come to the shelter and see for yourself. While you're there please check out our BARC STARZ and all the other dogs and cats looking for looking for loving homes. That is LAVERNE and she is ready for back-to-school! We first met LAVERNE last December when she arrived at BARC with her sister Shirley. They were both tiny babies. Shirley got adopted first, then LAVERNE. Sadly, LAVERNE was returned to BARC several months later by her adopters because she was acting too much like a puppy. Apparently some folks don't realize baby dogs needs training just like baby people. So LAVERNE is looking for a home again. She's almost full-grown now at about 40 pounds, spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative. You've never seen such a playful, silly dog! LAVERNE doesn't just play with one toy--she plays with all the toys! She's also very sweet and friendly, and hoping this time around she'll get a home where the people have more patience (and common sense!) and won't give up on her so easily. Look for LAVERNE at BARC in South C Ward, I.D. A0975675. And we are pleased to introduce BOO-BOO KITTY! BOO-BOO KITTY is another super-snuggler looking for a lap to claim. If not a lap she'll climb up on a shoulder. And if that doesn't get attention she'll give a few head-butts. BOO-BOO KITTY is a young lady of about a year old and she has the recipe for love. Congratulations to kitty MONICA who found her Forever Home with a nice couple who came all the way to BARC to save her! FARGO the pittie with the huge smile was adopted at Wags to Whiskers! WHISTLE the black Lab mix was adopted at the 290 PetSmart! Kitties POOKIA, SIMBA and LARK were all saved from BARC by caring fosters and rescue groups! THE ADOPTION FEE AT BARC IS ONLY $55 -- THAT'S THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN! That includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and the first year's city license if the animal will reside in the City of Houston. Congrats on the successful adoption events! I hope the animals adopted out are in loving, forever homes. Hope & prayers for the others waiting for someone to take and love them.
