The weekend is here and this week's BARC STARZ are ready to party with you!

First, Saturday between 10 am and 5 pm you're invited to bring some canned pet food by STYLE BOUTIQUE at 5115 Buffalo Speedway. No only are they collecting food for the animals at BARC, but they're also donating 10% of their sales to Friends of BARC!

Then, between 3 pm AND 8 pm come to the Meet and Greet at the Cooper Animal Clinic at 1136 Heights Boulevard. Meet the BARC STARZ, buy a few raffle tickets, and enjoy some tasty treats. This month's theme is "THE BARKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW." It's also White Linen Night in the Heights so you're guaranteed to have fun!

Also on Staurday and Sunday, BARC dogs and cats will be at the new PetsMart in the Heights, 1907 Taylor St. (immediately off I-10), Houston, TX 77007, and at Highland Village Pet Adoptions Storefront, 4056 Westheimer next to Williams Sonoma. You can also find BARC's adorable adoptable dogs and cats every Saturday at the PetSmart on the Northwest Freeway, 13830 NW Freeway, Houston, TX 77040. And, don't forget about the stopping by the shelter at 3200 Carr Street. The staff and volunteers are really working hard to make improvements so please come by and save an animal in need!!

BELLANCA (featured with the story) wants to know if blondes really have more fun? So far this summer has been pretty lousy because BELLANCA'S been stuck at BARC. She's not a wild, party girl; She just wants to feel the warm sunshine on her back and the grass between her toes. BELLANCA'S actually very gentle and a little shy. She's a friendly girl and looks like she would enjoy the company of another dog. A small Lab mix, BELLANCA is full-grown at around 40 pounds. She may even be housebroken! BELLANCA is current on shots and heartworm negative. Come make this a fun summer for this pretty blonde! Look for BELLANCA at BARC in South D Ward, I.D. A0993500.

Another blonde seeking his forever home is CORNFLAKE S. PECIALLY. You can call him "Corny." CORNFLAKE is a super-silly and super-snuggly guy. He's all about the luuuuv, but he's not above climbing on your head to get your attention. CORNFLAKE acts like a youngster but he's actually 2 years old. This corny orange and white fellow is neutered, microchipped and current on his shots. He would also like to remind you CORNFLAKE is a good part of a healthy life! Look for CORNFLAKE at BARC in the North Building Open Adoption Room, I.D. A0993107.

HAPPY TAILS....

Many thanks to all the fosters and rescuers who saved cats from BARC that were running out of time! WAFFLES, JAZZY, HEIDI, MORGAN, and NELLY are all out of BARC and sleeping in warm beds tonight.

As for the dogs, ROXY the black Lab mix was adopted by one of our BARC Starz readers. Thank you for saving our special friend!

NARA the fetch enthusiast was taken in by Pet Connect and is still available for adoption at the Highland Village Pet Adoptions storefront. Come see her Saturday & Sunday at 4056 Westheimer next to Williams Sonoma.

RAMONA the bouncy brindle pit mix was adopted at BARC and volunteer Trish tells us: "RAMONA found an awesome home this past weekend. She has a new sister that she will share a great mommy and daddy with! She left with such a huge smile on her face!" This is the kind of Happy Tail we wish for every one of our Starz.

THE ADOPTION FEE AT BARC IS ONLY $55 -- THAT'S THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN! That includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and the first year's city license if the animal will reside in the City of Houston. For more information please visit BARC's website at: www.houstontx.gov/health/BARC/index.html.

BARC is the City of Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. The shelter is located at 3200 Carr Street, Houston, Texas 77026. Adoption hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. You may also Contact BARC by phone at 713-229-7300.
