IT'S "WAGS TO WHISKERS" TIME AGAIN!
This Saturday, June 20, BARC is hosting an on-site adoption event sponsored by Friends of BARC. Volunteers and staff will welcome the public and serve free hot dogs and soft drinks from noon to 4 pm. All adoptions will be half-price! $27.50 gets you a fully-vetted, spayed or neutered, microchipped dog or cast. That's the best deal in tgown. If you've never been to BARC this is a great chance to come and see the facility, meet the people behind the scenes and check out some cute critters. Here are a few of the animals available for adoption right now: TRISH. Ever try and get a kid to smile for the camera and as soon as you push the button they stick their tongue out? As soon as she saw the camera TRISH started hamming it up. TRISH is a beautiful 2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Boxer mix. If you are familiar with these breeds you know both breeds are friendly, lovable and extremely loyal--and TRISH has a double-dose! TRISH is very smart--She already knows Sit and she seems to be housebroken. She's gentle with kids and friendly to everyone she meets. Plus, she has that fun silly side. TRISH is current on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. All she needs now is someone special to clown around with! Look for TRISH at BARC in South B Ward, I.D. number A0988221. BUFFY & MUFFIN. It's hard to tell from their picture, but these two little girls are scared to death. You would be too if the Dog Catcher snatched you up and took you to BARC! BUFFY & MUFFIN are 5 month old Rottweiler mixes who spend most of their time huddled together in the corner of their kennel. We brought them outside hoping they'd loosen up and have a little fun but they went and huddled together in the corner of the play yard. This is no life for puppies! If you would like to help these sisters learn that people are not all bad and life can be good, they definitely need a hero (or two). Look for BUFFY (A0993551) and MUFFIN (A0993550) at BARC, South D Ward. RIVA. Here's another sweet girl looking for a hero! RIVA has been at BARC waiting to be adopted for almost 3 long months. She's patient and quiet in her kennel so she keeps getting overlooked, while all the loud, boisterous dogs get all the attention. RIVA has lots of love to give and wishes she had someone to give it to. She's happy sitting in your lap sharing hugs and kisses but she also likes to play and be silly. RIVA is a 2 year old pit bull mix. She's spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative. Rescue RIVA today and make a friend for life! Look for RIVA at BARC in South B Ward, I.D. number A0986549. MICKY. He's been a BARC STAR before, but we have this fun new picture to share and he's so special to many of us volunteers we really hope someone wonderful will come along and adopt this great dog. This picture was taken at the Friends of BARC adoption event last Sunday and MICKEY is enjoying a little cuddle time with volunteer Tim. There's no one like Tim when it comes to turning even the biggest dog to mush. MICKY is naturally full of love, smart and well-mannered. He knows Sit and seems to be housebroken, and he's easy to walk on a leash. MICKY is a Pharoah Hound/pit mix of about a year-and-a-half old. He's neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative. Please consider our good friend MICKY! Look for MICKY at BARC in South A Ward, I.D. number A0986887. SPIKE. This poor little kitten is all alone! SPIKE came into BARC without her momma or any litter mates and is such a sad sight all by herself in her big cage. She's just 2 months old and is very timid, but once you take her out and start petting her you can feel her purring. Don't let this baby grow up at BARC without knowing what it's like to be a kitten. Look for SPIKE at BARC in the Cat Adoption area of the South Kennels, I.D. number A0995105. CINDER. With so many cats and kittens at BARC it's easy to get overlooked, which must be the case with CINDER, especially since she's a gray cat in a gray cage up on the top shelf. This pretty silver tuxedo cat has white whiskers, a white bib and cute white boots. She's ready for a night out! CINDER is 3 years old, spayed, and FELV-FIV negative. She's been waiting since April for her chance to get out. Won't you give her her chance? Look for CINDER at BARC in the Cat Adoption area of the South Kennels, I.D. number A0988454. PEPPER. With a coat like a tiger, pretty PEPPER really turns heads! PEPPER looks like a Plott Hound which is an American hunting dog in the same family as Coonhounds and Bloodhounds. They are great companions, intelligent and loyal. PEPPER has the gentle and goofy demeanor of a hound, easy-going and personable. Plott Hounds are lean and muscular with that distinctive brindle coat. PEPPER will need a home with a big yard and a family who will give her lots of exercise. She will enjoy daily walks and other outdoor activities. PEPPER is about 3 years old and will be about 50-60 pounds with a proper diet. She's spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative, and patiently waiting for that special someone who will bust her out of doggy jail! Look for PEPPER at BARC in South D Ward, I.D. A0989720. CLANCY. Look at that big smile! CLANCY is one of those big lovebugs that just loves to be around people. He's a certified "Leaner," a dog that will lean his body against you as a way to show his friendship and need for affection. He'll also bury his head in your lap or under your arm when he's playing shy. He's one of those big dogs who thinks he's a little dog and wants to be a lap dog. He'd rather snuggle with you than chase a ball. He will probably open up more once he gets a home of his own where he feels safe and secure. CLANCY is a handsome 2 year old blond pit bull mix with big pointy ears and a happy tail. He's on the thin side now but once he has a few good meals he will fill out and be in the 50-60 pound range. CLANCY is neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped and ready to get the heck out of BARC! Look for CLANCY at BARC in South D Ward, I.D. A0987617. HAPPY TAILS.... MANDY the colorful Catahoula Leopard Dog found the perfect home! Volunteer Denise says: "Mandy the Catahoula was adopted by a very nice college girl. She was looking for an active dog to take to the dog parks and to the river. She said she was gonna go buy her a life jacket. She is from Austin and was so thrilled to get her, she said this was the dog she has been looking for. They were truly a perfect match for one another." Big thanks to Denise of Sterling Pet Services for helping Mandy find her forever home! RUDY the handsome brown Lab mix finally found a great home! Jamie from BARC says: "BARC Star RUDY got adopted at the event to the BEST family. They have an air conditioned dog house with a run for during the day and a warm bed in the house at night. They had a shepherd for 14 years that just passed and I think they are the best parents who have ever adopted from me!" KYLIE our girl whose time was almost up was saved from BARC by fosters and is still available for adoption. You can see her this weekend at the Highland Village adoption storefront, 4056 Westheimer. AMBER the happy black Lab mix has an adoption pending, thanks to our friends at Highland Village Pet Adoptions. staffordshire bull terrier mix? that is just another name for PIT BULL TERRIER MIX. and i dont see ANY BOXER in her at all. you need to place the correct name on the dog, not the English term. people need to know what they are getting especially if they have children.
Trish is an awesome dog~~~perhaps her and I bonded because we share the same name! Regardless of her breed, she is well behaved and has so much love to give to those who will give her nothing but love in return!
