Everyone must have been out having fun over the holiday weekend because it sure was slow for our BARC Starz. Not a single adoption to report! Summer is typically slow for shelter adoptions but that doesn't mean there are any less animals looking for homes. Think of all the fun you could have with a new pet this summer: Whether it's going camping or to the beach with a big dog, going shopping or to the dog park with a little dog, or staying in and relaxing in the air conditioning with a cuddly cat! Summertime is a great time to welcome a new friend to the family. Please take a second look at our Starz from last week (as well as a couple of new ones) and consider giving a lonely shelter animal a home this summer!

BAILEY. We hate stories like BAILEY'S: A perfectly wonderful dog dumped by her owner at the pound. What do people think will happen to their dogs when left at a place like BARC? The odds are very slim they will find another home. Lucky for her, BAILEY caught the attention of a BARC employee who begged us to try to find a good home for her. BAILEY is a beautiful tiger-striped bridle pit bullmix who is very sweet and friendly. She already knows basic obedience like Sit, is good on a leash, and seems to be housebroken, too. We had a couple of trainers check her out and all agreed she is smart, well-behaved and easy to love. Please consider giving BAILEY a second chance and the Forever Home she deserves. BAILEY is a little over a year old, heartworm negative and current on all her shots.Look for BAILEY at BARC in South B Ward, I.D. A0990853.

LILO. Here's another heart breaker: Handsome LILO has no ears! They were probably cut off by his previous owner who thought it madehis dog look tough. Thugs like this usually do the cropping themselves and it often ends up a bungled mess. In LILO's case, they cut so close to his head he has nothing left! Other than his missing ears, LILO is your typical energetic, playful young dog. LILOis a year old Catahoula Leopard mix with striking multi-colored eyes. He's about 40 pounds and lots of fun. LILO would love an active household with lots of play time and lots of things to do. He's neutered and microchipped and has had all his shots. LILO islow heartworm positive which is easily remedied with regular care and treatment. Look for LILO at BARC in South A Ward, I.D. A0989900.

ANIMALS IN FOSTER CARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION:

KRYSTAL. Soft and snowy white, KRYSTAL just begs to be petted. Eight-year-old KRYSTAL was dumped at BARC by her previous owner who says that KRYSTAL is deaf. That's okay, though, because you don't have to hear to know this girl can really purr! KRYSTAL has also been declawed so she must be an indoor only cat which is best for any cat considering all the trouble they can get into outside. KRYSTAL is a sweet and friendly girl that is very outgoing and loves to be held. She's already spayed and ready to go to her Forever Home today! If you are interested in KRYSTAL, email Barbara at bkertz@bcm.tmc.edu.

SNICKERS. SNICKERS had been living at BARC for three months and suddenly found herself on the list of cats that had Been There Too Long. SNICKERS needed to get out ASAP to make room for other kitties coming in. Luckily, she was rescued by a caring foster but she still needs a Forever Home of her own. SNICKERS is about a year old, spayed and microchipped, and has had all of her shots. She is playful and loves to "make biscuits" non stop. She gets along well with other kitties and is interested in dogs (i.e., trying her best to make friends with the foster dogs in the house). If you are interested in SNICKERS, call Ria at 832-541-1014.

BENTLEY. Bentley is an incredibly handsome, majestic, 2 year old, 60 pound American Pit Bull Terrier. He seems to have only love in his huge heart. Bentley loves to go for walks, he loves to ride in the car, but most of all he loves to be held and share kisses. He is house trained and crate trained. Bentley was temperament evaluated over 10 days at Spindletop APBT/AST Refuge by one of the foremost APBT experts in the country. He earned his certification which he passed with flying colors: "Extremely human oriented; Very much wanting to do the right thing; Eager to please; Very responsive to direction and correction; would have no hesitations adopting to a family with kids. Should be an only dog or with a non dominant, female dog, as big or bigger than him. No cats." Bentley also completed a 3 week training program at Rover Oaks where his trainer Charla worked with Bentley everyday and declared him highly intelligent and a joy to work with. She also called him a really wonderful dog. We would require that Bentley continue his training at Rover Oaks or at another approved training facility or trainer. Bentley is on heartworm preventative, neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. If you are interested in BENTLEY, email Bonnie at ford.bonnie@gmail.com.

JAZZIE. JAZZIE gets along great with other dogs and is very sweet--And check out those jazzy blue eyes! JAZZIE is a Siberian Husky mix, female, 7 months old, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on all her vaccinations. JAZZIE is crate trained and house trained. She still has a lot of puppy in her and she loves toys. JAZZIE is extremely smart and is learning basic commands. As with all dogs, however, a training class is recommended so she can learn to work with her new family. JAZZIE will only be about 40 pounds full-grown, and won't have all the hair that huskies do so she'll hardly shed. If you are interested in JAZZIE, call Carla at 713-444-3012.

PACO. Poor PACO was left at the pound by his owners and he can't figure out why. PACO needs someone to love and love him. He prefers people to other animals, but he gets along fine with dogs and cats, nonetheless. PACO would be a great dog for a single person or older person/couple who will dote on him. He sleeps on the bed all night and does not budge, and he walks perfectly on leash. He's still a little shy, but he's getting better every day. PACO is 2 years old, neutered, current on all his shots and housebroken. PACO is a perfect little dog just looking for the perfect home where he will be loved and adored as he deserves! If you are interested in PACO, call Joanie at 832-724-6508.
