Bo is a 6-month-old Portuguese Water Dog -- a campaign promise to the First Daughters and a gift to the First Family from Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass, and his wife, Victoria.

To a select crowd of eager media, the black and white pup made his official public debut on the South Lawn of the White House on Tuesday at 4:40 p.m.

President Obama, and the First Lady, as well as Malia and Sasha Obama walked Bo across the lawn to the waiting press pool.

The President said, as heard on the video above, "the First Pup is welcome in the Oval Office."

Malia then broke in with adoration, "I love him, he's perfect." Seven-year-old Malia added, "He doesn't know how to swim!"

With a quick run across the lawn, the 10-year-old and Bo gave a brief backyard photo-op before returning, along with Malia and the First Lady, to the residence, while the President headed to the Oval Office.
