The Wildlife Rehab & Education Center is proud to announce their Oiled Wildlife Response Workshop on April 24th and again on April 25th.
The purpose of the workshop is to certify and train personnel that would be interested in assisting the WR&E Oiled Wildlife Response Team during a spill or anyone who may participate in any role during an oiled wildlife response. There is no cost for the workshop as it is sponsored by a grant from the Texas General Land Office, but space is limited. The Gulf Coast supports large concentrations of wintering waterfowl and is an area for an abundance of nesting waterfowl, shorebirds, and water birds. An oil spill in this area could affect large numbers of protected migratory birds requiring many trained responders. WR&E has been actively involved in oiled wildlife response for over 20 years. They are HAZWOPER certified and ICS trained, plus they serve on the advisory council for the Texas State Animal Resource Team (TXSART). In addition, they are able to care for thousands of wild animals at their facility and have the necessary state of the art equipment available upon request during an oiled wildlife response. If you would like to attend this specialized workshop, please contact Sharon Schmalz at 713.861.9453. The mission of the Wildlife Rehab and Education Center is to care for injured or orphaned wildlife through rehabilitation and public education. For more information call 713-861-WILD (9453) or visit their web site at www.wrande.org. |
