It's spring, when a young dog's (or cat's) fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love... and BARC is full of puppies and kittens! With apologies to Lord Tennyson, this is the time of year when animal shelters around the country are overflowing with dogs and cats as they do what the birds and the bees do and make more dogs and cats. With this in mind, BARC is offering HALF PRICE ADOPTIONS at the shelter during the month of April. So if you have been thinking of adding a four-legged member to the family, now is the perfect time to adopt a friend for life!
HOPPY IS 90 DAY DOG! The usual amount of time BARC gives animals in the Adoption Program to find a home is 90 days and HOPPY is well over her limit. Who knows why some dogs get picked while others don't? Remember how it felt in gym class when they were picking teams to play ball? That's how HOPPY feels watching the people pass her kennel day after day, always hoping today will be the day she gets picked and gets her chance in the big game of life. HOPPY is a silly, fun-loving kid, not even a year old yet. She's got lots of energy and loves to play. Her ears stick up and she has a kind of run-hop like a rabbit which is why she's called HOPPY. HOPPY is a medium-sized dog and will probably not grow bigger than 40 pounds. Her breed is a mystery, but she has a beautiful, shiny tiger-striped coat. HOPPY's time is limited! Look for HOPPY at BARC in B Ward South, I.D. A0979442. JOY IS A 90 DAY DOG! JOY is giving you her saddest, most heart-breaking look so you will rush right over to BARC and adopt her today. As you can tell, JOY is a smart dog! JOY is actually a very happy dog which is why she's called JOY. She's always bursting with enthusiasm and ready for fun. She loves to run and play, but she also likes to be loved and petted. As an extra bonus she may be housebroken! JOY is a medium-sized girl who is full grown at a little over a year old. She's spayed, microchipped and current on her shots. All she needs now is a happy home to call her own. JOY's time is limited! Look for JOY at BARC in B Ward South, I.D. A0980955. NOTHING GETS STUMPY DOWN! Poor ol' STUMPY has been hanging around BARC for months waiting for someone to notice him. For the longest time he didn't have any I.D. so no one knew who he was or how long he'd been there. As if that weren't bad enough, STUMPY has only half a tail which is how he got his name. But STUMPY's a real happy-go-lucky kind of guy who's ready to let bygones be bygones and start a new life. STUMPY is about a year old and enjoys playing Fetch and having his belly rubbed. STUMPY is what you call a Leaner: he shows his love by leaning on you when you stand or sit still. His kennel attendant says STUMPY is very well-mannered and has learned "sit" and "stay." Right now, STUMPY's probably a lean 45 pounds, and he could definitely stand to put on more than a few pounds. STUMPY is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on all his shots. Look for STUMPY at BARC in B Ward South, I.D. A0987098. LUCAS IS ONE LUCKY DOG! LUCAS was saved from BARC by a watchful volunteer when she heard he was going to be euthanized because he was too big to fit in their tiny kennels. LUCAS is a very sweet and gentle boy. He is between 2-3 years old, neutered, microchipped and current on all of his shots. LUCAS is heartworm negative, good with other dogs and probably good with kids. He would make a great family dog or a one-on-one dog. He is calm and is great on a leash--He just trots along. He is also house trained, since he appears to have been someone's pet before he landed at BARC. LULA IS LOOKING FOR THE GOOD LIFE. LULA was living at BARC and not eating. Luckily she found a caring foster mom who took her home and started feeding her. LULA has already gained a lot of weight and is looking forward to starting her new life. Her old family didn't socialize her so she's a little nervous around new dogs at first, but after a few minutes--look out! That's when her playful, frisky side comes out. LULA really loves her foster brother Ace. He's been teaching her the ropes. She really likes to steal his toys! She's probably never had any of her own before. LULA is crate trained and knows "sit" and "down." She's been spayed, microchipped and has had all of her shots. LULA is approximately 1 year old and weighs 30 pounds. She's not too fond of cats; She might be able to learn, but right now they just seem like moving toys! LULA would really love to find her forever home so she can start bonding with a family of her own. But no kids please; She's kinda nervous around them. If you are interested in LULA, please call her foster mom Ria at 832-541-1014. CHECK OUT THOSE JAZZY BLUE EYES! JAZZIE is a Siberian Husky mix, female, 7 months old, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on all her vaccinations. JAZZIE is crate trained and house trained. She still has a lot of puppy in her and she loves toys. JAZZIE is extremely smart and is learning basic commands. As with all dogs, however, a training class is recommended so she can learn to work with her new family. JAZZIE will only be about 40 pounds full-grown, and won't have all the hair that huskies do so she'll hardly shed. She gets along with other dogs and is very sweet. if you are interested in JAZZIE, please contact her foster mom Carla at 713-444-3012. REMEMBER, FOR APRIL ONLY ADOPTIONS AT BARC ARE HALF PRICE! That means you pay only $27.50, and that includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and the first year's city license if the animal will reside in the City of Houston.
