| UPDATE: Montana BSL Soundly Defeated »
A caretaker was arrested Sunday after East Texas authorities discovered an elderly man living in poor conditions among hundreds of animals--including dogs, cats, sheep, goats, geese, turkeys and rabbits. Richard Anthony Delfeld Jr., 53, was arrested Sunday morning by Van Zandt County sheriff's deputies on a charge of felony injury to a disabled person. He remained in jail Sunday afternoon and was set to be arraigned on Monday. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney. "The living conditions were horrific," said sheriff's investigator Chuck Allen, who said there was no electricity, running water or heat in the mobile home where the man and Delfeld lived. The elderly man, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital Saturday in stable condition. All of the animals have been rescued from the about half acre of land. About 185 animals were found alive and about 75 were found dead Saturday, Allen said. For more on this story, click here. |
