Here are this week's BARC STARZ, including three 90-day dogs that need loving homes today! URGENT!! Last week for COPPER!!!! (A893224) Copper is a strikingly beautiful dog with a soft, fluffy tiger-striped coat. He's probably a Chow or shepherd mix, and he's definitely unique! Copper gets along great with other dogs and is patient and friendly with everyone. He likes to play fetch and run like the wind, but you probably would too if you'd been living at BARC for three months! Copper is about a year old, medium-sized with a thick coat. That makes him just right for snuggling. We can't believe that no one has picked this gorgeous dog. He needs to find a foster or adopter by 10/18 (Saturday). Contact Kathy if you can help Copper at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. URGENT!! Last chance for EDDIE!!!! (A894078) Eddie is a little Jack Russell (with possibly some Italian Greyhound mixed in) type of about 15 pounds who is missing part of one ear. Maybe we should have named him "Van Gogh?" Sometimes Eddie is a little cranky around other dogs so he would probably do best as an Only Dog. On the day the picture was taken he did okay in the play yard with the other dogs, but he was obviously much happier in the volunteer's lap. Eddie's about 3 years old, neutered and looking for just the right lap to snuggle in. His time is up on 10/18....he needs a foster or adopter now! To help save Eddie, contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. URGENT!!! Last chance for FLETCHER (A883271). Fletcher is a yellow Lab mix with a cute face you cannot resist! He really loves to be around people and is good with dogs, too. Fletcher is medium-sized, very playful and about a year old so he would be a great family pet. He's neutered and micro-chipped and waiting for that loving home he deserves. This is his last week at BARC. Contact Kathy if you can help at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. DOLLY (A894803) is a cuddly girl who really enjoys attention from people. She's a little iffy with dogs she doesn't know, so a pre-adoption introduction to any other dogs in the house is suggested. On the day the picture was taken Dolly was out in the play yard with three other dogs and did fine. In fact, she had fun playing with the dogs and then relaxing with some hugs and belly rubs from a volunteer. Dolly's medium-sized with a cute curly tail, about 2 years old, spayed and ready for her Forever Home. Her 90 days are up on 10-24-08. For more information on Dolly, contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com. PHOENIX (A890051) has a heartbreaking story we hope will bring a happy ending. He was turned in to BARC as a cruelty case. Sadly, he was locked in a hot car in the middle of summer and barely made it out alive. Phoenix has a new lease on life, however, and seems full of joy. He loves to play with other dogs and get hugs and kisses from people. Phoenix is a shepherd mix with a thick shiny coat that begs to be petted and cute perky ears. Phoenix is about a year old, neutered and really deserves a new chance at a happy life. Can you help show him that people ARE good and caring?? His time at BARC is almost up. If you can help foster or adopt Phoenix , contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com. DARLA A895401 (10/31) is a skinny little thing with big floppy ears. She's full of energy and loves to run and play. Darla's fine with other dogs and would probably be a good playmate for another dog with a similar energy level. Darla's about a year-and-a-half old, spayed and micro-chipped, so all she needs now is a good home and some groceries! Her time at BARC is up at the end of the month. Can you help fatten this baby up and give her a new lease on life? Contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com. Sophie wants someone to pick her. She was on her own at BARC for three months, wondering what she did wrong. And now, Sophie's afraid she'll never find a home again. And yet she still remains a wonderful, playful pup! She loves walks, car rides (expert car rider in the 6 hour escape from Ike!), treats, toys, and all people. She's absolutely wonderful with other dogs, big and small (submissive with them all). She's probably full grown at ten months old, completely healthy, knows several commands and is super-duper-eager to meet anyone who might like to be her new friend. Please contact her foster dad, Michael, at mross@icareforanimals.org or at 917-621-5758 if you'd like to know more about this sweet girl. She's so afraid that nobody will call. Looking for an intelligent, loyal companion? Mel is a match for you! You'll get unconditional love from Melbourne (Mel), an Australian Cattle Dog/heeler. In addition to his sweet nature and good looks, Mel is also a very quick learner. He's been professionally trained and knows all basic commands (sit, down, stay, heel, etc.). He's housebroken and crate trained and loves to go for walks or lay at your feet and be admired. He's 2-3 years old and weights about 50 lbs. Mel is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and has completed heartworm treatment. For additional information and photos of Mel, please visit his web site: http://www.adoptthatdog.com/. If you'd like to know more about Mel, contact his foster mom at flettch@gmail.com. Meet Precious, a cute little min-pin mix! Precious gave birth to 2 babies at BARC and a quick thinking vet tech asked a foster to get them out of BARC. A couple fosters later she is now looking for her forever home. Contact Tammy at TTuttle@HandyHardware.com for more info. Finally, our favorite dog of the week is ENOS (A897634). Enos is a rare find at BARC: a big ol' honest-to-goodness hound dog! This guy is absolutely gorgeous and delights everyone with his "Woo-woo" hound dog bark. He's got huge ears and is just as sweet as can be. He is pretty laid back and good with other dogs, and we suspect he'd make some lucky person a true and loyal companion. Enos is about 4 years old, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. He looks like he's losing weight at BARC, though, so he might be depressed. Come get Enos and make him a happy hound! Contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com for more information! The adoption fee is only $55 for any of these dogs and includes: surgery for spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, Home Again Microchip and 1 year city license. What a deal for a lifelong friend!! Hope & prayers for these babies to find their loving forever homes...or a foster until then! What beautiful faces! Houston has always had a big heart where these 90 day dogs are concerned! I hope there are those who can help...and help quickly! It breaks my heart that I can't...Ike damaged home, babies of my own to keep safe. I pray that these and others can be saved!
COME ON HOUSTON - COPPER, EDDIE AND FLETCHER NEED OUR HELP NOW!!!! TODAY IS THEIR LAST DAY - THEY WILL LOSE THEIR LIVES TOMORROW IF SOMEONE DOESNT DO SOMETHING TODAY!!!! We all seem to be victims these days - victims of Ike, victims of the economy, etc. But these beautiful furbabies are innocent victims of life - they need our help! If I didnt already have 4 foster dogs and 1 foster pup (along with my own 4 dogs) I would take on all 3 - but alas - no more room in my house. Two of my fosters have their crates in my kitchen due to running out of room everywhere else in my house!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - OPEN YOUR HEARTS AND GIVE THESE FURBABIES AND NEW LIFE! Even if you can only foster them - that is good enough! Fostering is a wonderful thing - you will never know the happiness of fostering unless you give it a chance! True - I cry when each of my fosters leave due to I care for them so much! But, I know that I have done my part - which is to make them safe until they find their forever homes! GIVE IT A TRY - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT FOR A MINUTE! Good luck to all the BARC STARZ!!
