The Houston SPCA is thankful to everyone in the community who participated in "Operation Save a Life." The program gave Galveston animals who were Hurricane Ike victims a foster home for ten days. To date, there have been 201 reunions and 450 animals that have been fostered through this life saving program. In addition to Operation Save A Life, the Houston SPCA evacuated hundreds of animals from coastal shelters to safety before the storm; rescued, saved and shelter 1,562 storm victims; fed/sheltered in place another 484 animals and in cooperation with Wildlife Rehab & Education fed and cared for more than 1,000 orphaned baby squirrels and other wild animals who also suffered from Ike's wrath. On Tuesday, September 30th, the Houston SPCA resumes normal adoption hours from 11am to 8pm, seven days a week. The Houston SPCA understands many have suffered a personal tragedy during this time and encourages those who have lost a pet during the storm or evacuated without their animal to visit www.houstonspca.org to search the online lost and found database.
